Post-Holiday Thoughts: Changes in Change

It’s December 26, the day after Xmas.

Oh real quick here are the special occasions today, Dec 26:

“National Thank You Note Day” – The presents have been unwrapped and put away. Now it’s time to write those thank you notes.

“National Whiner’s Day” – A day dedicated to whiners, especially those who return Christmas gifts and need lots of attention

change-architect-sign1

Anyway, on the show today we talked about the C word, yes, I know it’s still taboo, but we had to bring it up. Today we talked about CHANGE.

See my friends and I usually spend the holiday season reflecting on changes we saw in ourselves and changes we want to see. Of course. this all sounds professional and eloquent here, but pretty much we were just reminiscing on the year that was over some drinks and thought it would be great to ask our listeners about this.

So, it’s Post-holiday reflection time: This year, what changes have you seen in yourself? Also, what changes do you want to see for next year?

Here are some of the responses we got:

Vhan Gil Sayre Serneo: I seen myself mature this year not only mentally but also physically…. Next year I want to see myself in a stable job and ready to go abroad. I really need to help my family and be rich….

Inciong Jenny: more mature… more patience… And next year wish to travel and enjoy life more…

Val Patrick Fabregas: This year I did three jobs at the same time – two part-time college teaching while having a full-time work at a call center as a technical trainer. But I already ended my part-time work last October. Im seeing to march this March 2012, finishing my Masteral Studies. Pls greet my wife, Gie & my daughter Precious. More power to the WakeUp Show & Happy Holidays DJ Tracy/ DJ Vince

Riyao Komni: Good Morning! BECHEEz!!!
for the topic: This year I become selfish and always
inside my room alone,, but probably next year i’ll be
more spontaneous and out of the box. 😀
I just want to say hi to my colleagues Dom, Celine and Rosalie..
please play “What the hell” by avril lavigne.. thanks and more power!! 😀

Jomar Ambalan: This year i become more productive, workacholic and look older so next year i just wanna relax and celebrate life. And one more thing this year i become listener of mellow 94.7:). Hi vince and Tracy. I love you guys. Hi to my friends emcee, marlon and cams hehe i hope you’re listening.

Wilson Chan: Good Morning Beeeee CheeeZz Vince and Tracy! It was great to finally meet my famous nephew! Next mission is to meet Tracy! Hahaha! Merry Christmas man! For next year I will be more aggressive in pursuing my work and career and stop procrastinating! Please greet my lovely wife Tala a good morning… Thanks!

I’m  not really sure is planning to stop procrastinating next year is really the way to start that new resolution…. lol.

For me, I’m still figuring out whether or not it’s time for me to head back to the US. I’m still loving my job but just not sure if the pay here in the Philippines is really the best for starting a retirement fund. Again, need to sacrifice the $$$ for the fun right now, and I’m having lots of fun being on air and also doing the blogging thing. So let’s give myself one more year here to see what comes out of this.

But yeah, what changes did you see in yourself or what do you want to see next year?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

Hallowe’en or All Hallow’s Eve

Oct 31. An ancient celebration combining Druid autumn festival and Christian customs. Hallowe’en (All Hallow’s Eve) is the beginning of Hallowtide, a season that embraces the Feast of All Saints (Nov 1) and the Feast of All Souls (Nov 2). The observance, dating from the sixth or seventh century, has long been associated with thoughts of the dead, spirits, witches, ghosts and devils. In fact, the ancient Celtic Feast of Samhain, the festival that marked the beginning of winter and of the New Year, was observed Nov 1.

Trick or Treat or Beggar’s Night

Oct 31. A popular custom on Hallowe’en, in which children wearing costumes visit neighbors’ homes, calling out “Trick or treat” and “begging” for candies or gifts to place in their beggars’ bags. In recent years there has been increased participation by adults, often parading in elaborate or outrageous costumes and also requesting candy.

Facts about ghosts:

What Is A Ghost?

Ghosts are defined as the disembodied spirits of once living breathing human beings. It is said that ghosts haunt certain places particularly where there may have been great tragedy or a person’s life has been cut short. Though there have been reports of ghost cars, trains and ships.

And there appears to be two distinct types of ghosts. Residual ghosts simply replay events from the past over and over. Usually in a residual haunting the ghost or spirit is not able to react to a live human or talk to them. Residual hauntings appear to simply be events from the past playing over and over in the same place and usually at the same time or under the same conditions.

And then there is the type of ghost or spirit that can interact and communicate with the people around it. This is usually the most frighting type of ghost.

The past is a ghost, the future a dream, and all we ever have is now.”  Bill Cosby

Devil’s Night

Oct 30. Formerly a “Mischief Night” on the evening before Halloween and an occasion for harmless pranks, chiefly observed by children. However, in some areas of the US, the destruction of property and endangering of lives has led to the imposition of dusk-to-dawn curfews during the last two or three days of October.

Haunted Refrigerator Night

Oct 30. Who knows what evil lurks in the refrigerators of men and women? It’s time to be afraid, very afraid. Gather friends, open the refrigerator door and venture unto the realm of the lower shelf, rear. That “thing” inside that container is much more horrifying than any haunted hayride.

World’s Strongest Vagina – lifts 31 lbs with her vagina

Meet Tatiata Kozhevnikova, the 42-year-old Russian woman with the world’s strongest vagina. No, seriously, she broke records to attain that title. Incredibly enough, she lifted 14 kilograms worth of weights– almost 31 pounds– to achieve such notoriety. She has been exercising her intimate muscles for fifteen years, and has already made her entrance into the Guinness Book of Records as the possessor of the world’s strongest vagina. “After I had a child, my intimate muscles got unbelievably weak. I read books on Dao and learned that ancient women used to deal with this problem using wooden balls,” she said.

Fact or Fiction

If you pluck your hair, more grows back.

FICTION

On an episode of Sex and the City, or “The Show That was Great Before the Second Sequel,” Samantha is upset over a grey hair. She goes to pluck it but decides against it. As she tells our heroine Carrie Bradshaw, “If you pluck it, ten more will come to its funeral.”– is Samantha’s anxiety based in truth?

No, no, and more no, according to experts. When your shaved hair grows back, it is initially short and stubbly. The longer hair is, the softer it becomes. So while it may seem like the gods are punishing you for taking a razor to unwanted hair – it’s really just the biology of your body

“Almost” is the longest word in the English language with all the letters in alphabetical order

Fact or Fiction

If you are attacked by a shark, you should punch it in the nose as hard as you can.

FICTION

While this strategy has worked for a lucky few, it is not one that is recommended by shark experts.  Most marine biologists advise that you not do anything that might agitate or injure the shark, as that could make it more aggressive or attract other sharks to the area.  If you do feel threatened, use a stick or other tool — rather than your hands — to fend it off, and poke it in the eyes or gills instead of the nose.

Actually, this widespread misconception about how to fend off a shark attack has even spawned a joke:

“Marine biology researchers have developed a new method to fend off shark attacks. If you are diving and are approached by a shark, they recommend that you swim toward it aggressively and punch it in the nose as hard as possible.

If this doesn’t work, beat the shark with your stump.”

Breasts are the first thing men notice in a woman

No news here. Research conducted at the Victoria University of Wellington showed that breasts are often the first thing men look at, and for a longer time than other body parts. Nothing to be ashamed since another study said that staring at women’s breasts for just minutes a day can improve a man’s health and add four to five years to his life.

Fact or Fiction

Cell phones are banned on planes because they might interfere with navigation instruments.

FICTION

Airplanes are specially insulated against foreign radio signals, and their communication and navigation instruments operate on different frequencies from cell phones. The Federal Communications Commission is actually the agency responsible for the ban, since the signals could potentially block telecommunication systems on the ground.

If someone makes a phone call from a plane, the signal would bounce across multiple cell towers at once, which could prevent other calls from going through. Yet some airlines in Europe, the Middle East and Asia have started allowing cell phone usage on flights.

In early 2009, Sheyla Hershey of Brazil was awarded the Guinness World Record for having the largest set of breasts. After nine surgeries and more than a gallon of silicone, her breasts are a size 38KKK.

Fact or Fiction

You get drunk faster in the air than on the ground.

FICTION

According to an old saying, one in the air is like three on the ground. That adage misses the mark though, because your blood alcohol level doesn’t actually change at a higher altitude as some think. With less oxygen reaching the brain because of the high altitude and the pressurized cabin, it might cause you to feel more intoxicated, but that’s about it.

Nevertheless, it probably isn’t a good idea to get hammered on a plane, if only out of courtesy to your neighbors.

Reason to party today – coz it’s happy hour somewhere in the world.

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Filipino-American Friendship Day, July 4, is a day in the Philippines designated by President Diosdado Macapagal to commemorate the liberation of the country by joint Filipino and American forces from the Japanese occupation at the end of World War II.

Fact or Fiction

A farmer beheaded a chicken in hopes of dinner, but the chicken survived 18 more months without a head. A farmer thought he was just putting dinner on the table when he picked up an axe and beheaded one of his chickens. Turned out he had a legend on his hands after the now headless rooster bobbed and weaved back to the henhouse and lived for 18 more months — without a head.

FACT

Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colo., did indeed own the world’s only surviving headless chicken, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He wielded the infamous axe in September 1945, unaware that he and his rooster would go down in history. The animal, now dubbed Mike and celebrated with a festival, Web sites and various magazine articles, apparently survived because the blade missed his jugular vein and a clot prevented him from bleeding to death. The axe blow landed high enough that most of the chicken’s brain stem and one ear remained intact. Olsen kept the animal fed and watered by inserting an eyedropper directly into his gullet. Eighteen months after the chicken lost his head he choked to death in a motel room. Residents of Fruita remember Mike as “a big fat chicken who didn’t know he didn’t have a head.”

Sex shop to give away “Pope condoms”

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A Dutch sex shop will be giving away 2,000 “Pope condoms” this weekend in a dig at the Roman Catholic Church.

De Condoomfabriek (The Condom Factory) said it wanted to make a point about sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and the Vatican’s opposition to contraceptives.

The condom wrapper carries the image of a papal figure with an unmistakable general likeness to Pope Benedict, though the figure’s face is removed. It bears the words “I SAID NO! We say YES!” framing the papal image.

The suggestion of a “pope condom” caused a diplomatic row last month when Britain’s Foreign Office was forced to apologize for a memorandum by a civil servant that suggested Benedict launch a papal-brand condom on his pending visit to the UK.

Fact or Fiction

When flying in a non-pressurized airplane, a woman’s breast implants can expand until they explode.

FICTION

Sorry, but this myth is busted! Despite the bizarre stories you may have heard, no woman has suffered the pain and embarrassment of having her breasts explode on an airplane. The implants may expand a bit, particularly when flying at extremely high altitudes – but at that point no one is likely to notice, as everyone will have passed out from lack of oxygen.
Oh, and the same goes for inflatable bras, so whether the augmentation is internal or external, ladies need not forgo air travel for fear of explosion
