IF~

If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man how to fish, you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

If you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wise. … If one is forever cautious, can one remain a human being?

If you want to succeed sooner, double your failure rate.

If you can dish it, make sure you can take it.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it ’til it is.

If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.

If in doubt, throw it out (my nutritionist’s rule for food).

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If you fall seven times, get up eight.

If anything can go wrong, it probably will (Murphy’s Law), have a backup plan ready.

If they can do it, so can you! The only difference is your desire and drive to do so.

If a picture paints a thousand words, then why can’t I paint you….?

If you don’t know – ASK. Now you know.

If you can’t beat ’em, don’t stop trying ’til you do.

If it rains, it pours, but don’t forget about the rainbow soon after.

If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.

If something’s beyond your control, why worry about it?

If you want to look young and thin, hang around old fat people.

If someone else messed up, pretend you didn’t notice.

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.

If you wish to make a man your enemy, tell him simply, “You are wrong.” This method works every time.

If you can do something today, do it today!

If you fear dying, then you’re already dead.

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.” – Winnie the Pooh Bear

Cocky Sonofa…

Overconfidence?

Is there such a thing? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds”
– Albert Einstein.

This quote has played a very big role in my own self esteem and can really be very positive, while being very egotistical and counter-productive at the same time.

I often reflect back to Bill Gates when he decided to drop out of Harvard in order to pursue his dreams. Imagine what his guidance councilor’s reaction to this was? I have so many different scenarios playing in my head, most of which involves the councilor calling Bill F-ing crazy, insane and absolutely idiotic, not necessarily in that order. Bill Gates, and anyone who walks the halls of Harvard, is pretty much guaranteed a six figure income right off the bat. Yet, Bill decided to take the chance, follow his own heart and do his own thing. Today, he is the most financially secure person in the world, to say the least.

But of course, we have to be realistic. We always hear about the amazing success stories but there are probably 10 (or more) failures for every victory. So how can one balance out between having our heads in the clouds but our feet on the ground?

Personally, I’ve always leaned toward taking the chance. Every mistake you make is one that you will learn from. Every mistake you make is one less mistake you will repeat.

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one”
–Elbert Hubbard.

Yes this may sound too aggressive and outlandish, and yes it is so much easier said than done, especially when you consider having to invest your life savings into your new widget. But I’m not talking about gambling when the odds are stacked in the favor of the casino, no, not gambling, but taking calculated risks in life. There are ways to plan things out, to stack the odds in your favor.

The best way to point yourself in the right direction is to do EVERYTHING you can to ensure success. There are so many other factors that are out of your hands, and those are meant to be left alone. However, aspects that you can control should be researched, planned, understood, structured, studied, debated, marinated, contemplated, practiced, innovated, re-contemplated and any other buzzword you could think of! Oh, and do come up with a plans A, B, C and D.

So far, you need to have confidence and believe in yourself then do everything you can to head towards the right direction. What’s next? *Now what?* (*refer back to previous blog post.)

“Now”, you have to listen.

Listening is a virtue. It’s so easily said, so frequently misused and too often forgotten.

Overconfidence only happens, when one forgets to listen. When one tunes out everyone else and only hears what you want to hear. You don’t have to agree or disagree with anyone, but you have to listen.

How do you listen? Well you need to be patient with the people who give you advice, but be careful whose advice you take.

There’s one more really, really important thing I need to tell you, which would pretty much make everything I said make so much more sense… it is the key to balancing your confidence….. it is something that one of my greatest mentors had taught me…. Umm it goes something like….. ummmm….. I can’t really remember it….. ahhhhh I wasn’t really listening….

365 Days of Motivation

Daily Dose of Motivation

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” – Zig Ziglar

It’s often very difficult to stay motivated day in and day out, but the problem is that if you want to stay ahead of the pack; you’re going to have to put in more sweat, blood and tears than everyone else. This is exactly why, according to the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (these people have not learned how to abbreviate!), 2% of adults in the world own more than half the world’s wealth!

Now what is wealth? Chris Rock clearly states the difference between being rich and being wealthy: “Shaq is rich; the white man who signs his checks is wealthy”.

Yes, I know that a many members of that 2% club probably did something illegal, or political (meaning they did something illegal but made it look legal, like invading other countries and stealing their oil – but that’s a whole different story), but that should not hinder us from finding the right path destined for each of us to succeed. Legal or not, this statistic shows that only 2% of the world has found the path towards the uppermost echelon (with concerns to monetary wealth).

The secret may be as simple as HARD WORK!

“The heights by great men reached and kept, were not attained by sudden flight;
But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”

– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

One of my favorite college professors, Prof. Kevin Cox, once told me that there will always be two ways to accomplish something – the hard way and the easy way. “Always pick the hard way!” he said.

Everyone else is taking the easy path. You really want to stand out from that crowded line and instead, take the road less traveled. It may seem tough and strenuous now, but when you look back, you’ll realize that that challenge probably helped you grow much more than you would, had you taken the easier route.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

– Robert Frost

For this thought, I like using the analogy of taking a stroll in the park as compared to climbing a mountain. You don’t get to grow or change much when you take a nice quiet walk in the park. Sure, it’s convenient, nice and relaxing, but there isn’t much room for growth in this. Now climbing a mountain is the total opposite. You have to test every single muscle in your body, not to mention you’d have to prepare yourself mentally to withstand the many obstacles that will hinder your path to the top. Even when doing each of the two tasks with someone else; you’ll learn a lot more about your partner and grow with them if you two climbed the mountain together. You’d have to trust them with your life and ensure that they can trust you with theirs when climbing. As compared to walking in the park where you may learn a thing or two about them, but again, not much room for growth.

So here I am, ready to take on the mountain.

I will be posting motivational thoughts everyday before I begin my daily routines. Hopefully, my efforts to motivate myself will in-turn, help motivate others as well.

“You don’t find yourself;
you MAKE yourself!”

PUMA SOCIAL puts the spotlight on After Hours Social Athletes

I wanted to thank my friends from Puma for introducing me to this event and introducing me to the new social concept of “Social Athletes” or “After-Hours Athletes”.” Curious as to what that is…. well read on…

‘PUMA® SOCIAL’ puts the spotlight on

‘After-Hours Athletes’

Believing that life itself is a sport and that everyone should be its champions, PUMA unveiled its new campaign at Manila’s happening club Republiq recently. Dubbed PUMA Social, the event paid tribute to Manila’s ‘after-hours athletes’, personalities who are top scorers in table tennis, foosball, darts, asking for a girl’s number, or any other social challenge that can be played with a beer in one hand.

Boracay-Rum-Puma-PFA-Etc 064

Made glittery by local celebrities who are after-hours athletes themselves, the event celebrated social sports that regale groups of friends who know how to have fun and be competitive in the arena of life. Prefer taking 5AM cab rides than 5AM runs? Going for marathons that end at 6AM? These after-hours athletes who represent PUMA Social do too, and the event brought them together for a legendary league.

Fueling the burning passion of after-hours athletes, PUMA Social inspires with its line of iconic styles that are functional and stylish such as the PUMA Suede, Dallas and the T7 Track Jacket. With such comfortable and stylish gear, social events become matches easily won.

“PUMA Social is a global campaign that celebrates the after-hours athlete – those unsung heroes of the night who, after work or any undertaking takes time to relax, grab a pingpong paddle, dart pin or bowling ball while a drink on the other; those who take life not too seriously,” said Teresa Liwanag, PUMA Philippines marketing head.

Vince Golangco for Project Headshot Clinic by Niccolo Cosme for World Aids Day

It’s a brilliant concept that is quickly taking the Facebook profile pictures by storm!

Billboards can help spread the word and in today’s new digital age, your profile pictures can be seen just as many times as the top billboards out there along EDSA or New York Times Square. So why not use this knowledge and the internet to help put up an online billboard to help.

I want to thank master photographer Niccolo Cosme for spreading awareness through his lens.

Project Headshot Clinic: Saving humanity through profile pictures.

Radio DJ / Blogger – Vince Golangco for Project Headshot Clinic

Project Headshot Clinic – ACT

The Project Headshot Clinic for 3 years has given a different look at to profile pictures online, it became serving as online billboards on online social networking sites and everyone in it, who participated in Project Headshot Clinic became an instant endorser of the product being advertised, or the cause that was being advocated for whatever that is being advertised, commercial or a particular advocacy.

For over the past three years, the Headshot Clinc team has partnered with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in fighting and responding to the challenge of HIV/AIDS.

The first awareness campaign of headshot clinic and UNAIDS in 2008 was called “AWARE”, followed by in 2008, and then “MOVE” in 2009 a follow up of the first one which aimed to move people from awareness to readiness to respond and act on this specific issue. This year’s, “ACT”, a clear call to action, where voluntary HIV screening and counseling was provided on given shooting dates by Take The Test and ASP (AIDS Society Philippines).

All headshots will be released online and should be used as primary profile pic on all the participant’s social network sites on December 1, 2010 which happens to be is the global celebration of WORLD AIDS DAY.

To do my part in helping spread AWARENESS, here’s a little more info about HIV / AIDS.

WHAT DOES “AIDS” MEAN?

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome:

  • Acquired means you can get infected with it;
  • Immune Deficiency means a weakness in the body’s system that fights diseases.
  • Syndrome means a group of health problems that make up a disease.

AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. If you get infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection. It will make “antibodies,” special molecules to fight HIV.

A blood test for HIV looks for these antibodies. If you have them in your blood, it means that you have HIV infection. People who have the HIV antibodies are called “HIV-Positive.”

Being HIV-positive, or having HIV disease, is not the same as having AIDS. Many people are HIV-positive but don’t get sick for many years. As HIV disease continues, it slowly wears down the immune system. Viruses, parasites, fungi and bacteria that usually don’t cause any problems can make you very sick if your immune system is damaged. These are called “opportunistic infections.”

HOW DO YOU GET AIDS?

You don’t actually “get” AIDS. You might get infected with HIV, and later you might develop AIDS. You can get infected with HIV from anyone who’s infected, even if they don’t look sick and even if they haven’t tested HIV-positive yet. The blood, vaginal fluid, semen, and breast milk of people infected with HIV has enough of the virus in it to infect other people. Most people get the HIV virus by:

  • having sex with an infected person
  • sharing a needle (shooting drugs) with someone who’s infected
  • being born when their mother is infected, or drinking the breast milk of an infected woman

Getting a transfusion of infected blood used to be a way people got AIDS, but now the blood supply is screened very carefully and the risk is extremely low.

There are no documented cases of HIV being transmitted by tears or saliva, but it is possible to be infected with HIV through oral sex or in rare cases through deep kissing, especially if you have open sores in your mouth or bleeding gums.

Breasts implants can also save you from death

Big breasts miraculously saved an Israeli woman from death at the hands of a Lebanese paramilitary organization. The incident occurred during a Hezbollah rocket attack. The victim got a boob job two years ago. During the war, she was wounded in the chest by shrapnel but survived because of her implants. While the patient is fine, the implant, unfortunately, did not survive.

Fact or Fiction

You cannot open the door of a sinking car.

FICTION…. sorta

When a sinking car isn’t yet completely flooded, the water pressure differential between the inside and outside of the cabin prevents the door from being opened. Only once the sinking sedan is filled to the brim — and the pressure difference stabilized — will the door latch release.

TALK TOPIC:

How To Make Your Social Network Work For You (and everyone else)

We always hear about

Intellectual Quotient

Emotional Quotient from a popular book

How about Social Quotient

How to grow in social intelligence

I feel that endorsements and interviews are the two top ways to get a job. So in a way, they’re results of people liking you enough to recommend you or hire you.

How to make the change from being socially inept to becoming socially adept

I am not claiming to be a teacher, as I myself am still a student of life and relationship building

I’ve realized that when I meet new people, I have a tendency to ask not only

How are you?

But also

“How can I help you?”

Though I don’t always say it aloud.

We all appreciate help. Whether in finding jobs, clients, baby sitters, PR opportunities, or making our dreams come true.

Everybody wants to be Cinderella, but they’re not always successful because they want it for themselves. My suggestion is that we all become Fairy Godmothers to each other –We can introduce them to prince charming, make them a dress and take them to the ball. Because only when we are all Fairy Godmothers to each other can we all become Cinderellas too – our dreams come true.

Noone is ever self-made. We are all products of the kindness and generosity of people we’ve met along the way.

And so you can never say thank you enough.

PR for me does not only stand for  public relations, but it means personal relations

You only have one chance to make an encounter count. People may not meet you ever again. Or you may not meet them ever again. So make the 10 minutes they choose to spend with you a positive and pleasant time.

It only takes a moment, to make, or break an impression.

•         A moment is a retail of time.
Make the moment count.

•         It’s not only about the peso counter, but also about the personal encounter
From the onstage impression to the offstage experience

MAKE THAT ENCOUNTER COUNT

Don’t give them a chance to say cute nga pero snob. The best thing people can say about you is “Gwapo na, mabait pa.” Or “Mabait na, guwapo pa.”

What’s the use of knowing a lot of people to look for a job if none of them want to help you? You know those people you don’t ever want to see again? You don’t want to be one of those people right?

George Washington said in his Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior from the 1700s

Everything done in company must be in consideration of everyone who is present

Always be considerate of people who are on the same room, same street, same country – people who are going to be affected, sometimes disturbed by what you do. Ask Is this right, is this decent, is this considerate?

==

HOW TO GROW IN SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

Don’t drop names of people you don’t really know or don’t know you

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

It’s not who you know it’s who knows you.

It’s not who knows you, its who likes you.

Don’t overpromise. Don’t talk too much. Just do your best, pray for the rest and let the results do the talking.

Try not to backstab. You don’t want to see bloody backs everywhere right? You don’t want someone to have a bloody back. You don’t want a bloody back. So don’t stab people with sharp words, especially behind their backs.

Strive not to improve others, but to improve yourself in patience, tolerance and understanding.

Words can break relationships. Especially those you hear from other people.

Conversations are two-way dialogues. They’re not monologues. There was a guy I’ve hung out with thrice already  before he found out (from someone else) where I worked and what I do.  Then he seemed surprised. That’s because he never asked me.  He kept on talking about himself for hours on end. And I didn’t want to interrupt his monologue.

Here are the top recent realizations I have while learning about PR or what is commonly known as public relations, but what I call Person Relations

1. Showing up is the greatest compliment. Staying in touch is the second best compliment.

2. The 24-hour cancellation policy should apply not only in restaurant or hotel reservations but also in social commitments. It’s hard to book another guest, as much as it is to book a new appointment in your day.

3 It has always been my job / second nature to invite friends and strangers to events and goings on. But I only invite up to three times. Decline it, and you will not hear from me again. (Ping Pong)

4. Just say yes. I’m a yes girl. Yes to all invites, openings and opportunities. Let the wind take you to doors that open up for you. And some doors are opened up through invites.

5. I’m allergic to flakes. I hope noone lets it happen that they’re described as flakes. They’re people who say they’d come but actually don’t.

Inversely, I like it when people come on time – plus points for early. Reliability is key.

5.  Respect your word. I strive to live by ‘And the word was made flesh.’ They say ‘don’t say it if you don’t mean it.’ I say, don’t say it if you won’t do it. Make it real.

6. The easiest thing to do is to be happy for other people’s success. I don’t know why other people find it hard.

7. People must have a balance of confidence and humility. There are some who are painfully shy, and there are some who are PAINFULLY confident. Both are equally disturbing. Strike a balance and you won’t turn others away.

8. I don’t understand how people can make saying sorry a habit. How about not doing anything that requires an apology? And only say you’ll make it up if you really would.

Confident but not cocky. Cultured but not flashy.

Humility, gratitude, honesty, courtesy and genuine interest in others are still key.

Confident but not self-absorbed.
Well-bred but not flaunting.
Accomplished but not flashy.
Initiates but not flaky.
Humility and genuine interest in others are still key.

Rule of the world is give and take. We should all start in giving.

Start happy.

Live in peace.

Show up. Keep your word. And keep in touch.

I love socially adept people. They just know what to say, when to say it. How do they do it, and when did they learn it? Kudos to their parents!

Fact or Fiction

A farmer beheaded a chicken in hopes of dinner, but the chicken survived 18 more months without a head. A farmer thought he was just putting dinner on the table when he picked up an axe and beheaded one of his chickens. Turned out he had a legend on his hands after the now headless rooster bobbed and weaved back to the henhouse and lived for 18 more months — without a head.

FACT

Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colo., did indeed own the world’s only surviving headless chicken, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He wielded the infamous axe in September 1945, unaware that he and his rooster would go down in history. The animal, now dubbed Mike and celebrated with a festival, Web sites and various magazine articles, apparently survived because the blade missed his jugular vein and a clot prevented him from bleeding to death. The axe blow landed high enough that most of the chicken’s brain stem and one ear remained intact. Olsen kept the animal fed and watered by inserting an eyedropper directly into his gullet. Eighteen months after the chicken lost his head he choked to death in a motel room. Residents of Fruita remember Mike as “a big fat chicken who didn’t know he didn’t have a head.”

Shrek – The Final Chapter was fun to watch! Mellow 94.7 hosted the premier and I was able to bring my little cousins with me. It was much better than Shrek 3, which I thought was pretty bad. This one had a nice story and lots of funny moment. As always, the characters, like Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy(Donkey) and Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) were AWESOME!

Sex shop to give away “Pope condoms”

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A Dutch sex shop will be giving away 2,000 “Pope condoms” this weekend in a dig at the Roman Catholic Church.

De Condoomfabriek (The Condom Factory) said it wanted to make a point about sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and the Vatican’s opposition to contraceptives.

The condom wrapper carries the image of a papal figure with an unmistakable general likeness to Pope Benedict, though the figure’s face is removed. It bears the words “I SAID NO! We say YES!” framing the papal image.

The suggestion of a “pope condom” caused a diplomatic row last month when Britain’s Foreign Office was forced to apologize for a memorandum by a civil servant that suggested Benedict launch a papal-brand condom on his pending visit to the UK.

Fact or Fiction

When flying in a non-pressurized airplane, a woman’s breast implants can expand until they explode.

FICTION

Sorry, but this myth is busted! Despite the bizarre stories you may have heard, no woman has suffered the pain and embarrassment of having her breasts explode on an airplane. The implants may expand a bit, particularly when flying at extremely high altitudes – but at that point no one is likely to notice, as everyone will have passed out from lack of oxygen.
Oh, and the same goes for inflatable bras, so whether the augmentation is internal or external, ladies need not forgo air travel for fear of explosion

Gelatin is made from animal bones and hides.

FACT

Gelatin is made by boiling the hides and bones of cows and pigs to release their collagen, which is boiled some more, filtered, dried and ground into a powder. Because it has been so extensively processed, gelatin is not classified as an animal product by the government, but strict vegetarians avoid it nonetheless.!

Fact or Fiction

Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can kill them.

FACT

Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine (a compound related to caffeine), which can sicken and kill family pets. Three factors determine how toxic the sweet stuff will be to a particular animal: the type of chocolate, the size of the animal and the amount of chocolate ingested. The most dangerous confections are unsweetened baker’s chocolate and powdered cocoa, the least, white chocolate.

Symptoms of theobromine poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, restlessness and increased urination. In severe cases, cardiac arrhythmia and seizures can result. The possibility that an animal will kill itself with chocolate is very low. More likely it will get a nasty tummy ache. In any case, it is still prudent to keep all chocolate far away from pets.

Today is Robert’s Rules Day, a day to mark the birth, in 1837, of one Henry Martyn Robert. After Robert was disappointed in the way he himself handled a meeting, he resolved to put together a parliamentary guide to help others (and himself) facing similar situations.

Robert’s Rules of Order is the short title of a book containing rules of order intended to be adopted as a parliamentary authority for use by a deliberative assembly.

Lots of cool stuff on air! Thanks so much for joining me. We talked about my trip to Boracay and my experience Cliff Diving! Here’s a video of that so you can see for yourself how AWESOME it was!  – Boracay Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

We also talked about girls falling in love with Marc Nelson, who I ran into while cliff diving. Though what’s funnier was how guys were falling in love with Marc Nelson as well…. long story… will have a different post on that soon.

Anyway, we also talked about the Iron Man 2 premier which I hosted for Mellow 94.7 last night. It was an ok movie…. but not really one that blew my mind away as much as I would have wanted it to. Still need to see it though coz War Machine was cool, but not on the top of my list for coolest movies by a long shot!

Well will be back on air tomorrow morning. Here’s the other stuff we talked about on “The G-Spot” with DJ Vince G, only on Mellow 94.7

My YouTube Video Pick of the Day

This is a crazy parody of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s song Telephone. It seems like it’s done by some locals who are VERY resourceful. I’m actually really impressed with the resourcefulness that they have for this low budget video but that really gets the video of Lady Gaga. Yeah it’s a bit Ghetto, but I’m sure they worked with a 0 budget! So any haters out there, I’d like to see you come up with a video like this with no budget. =P

Fact or Fiction

It’s hotter in the summertime because the Earth is closer to the sun.

FICTION

The Earth is actually closer to the sun in January, and farthest from the sun in July.  It’s not the distance from the sun that causes the change in seasons, but our position relative to the sun.  The Earth is tilted at a 23.5-degree angle to its orbit around the sun.  In the summer, even though it’s slightly further from the sun, the northern hemisphere is tilted so the sun’s rays hit it more directly than they do in the wintertime, which is what makes it hotter.  Because the days are longer in the summertime, the sun also has more time to heat up the Earth.

The Earth’s tilt is also why the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere.

Vince at iBlog6 Summit – From the Eyes (and Links) of Other Bloggers

The iBlog 6 Summit was a BLAST!

I had way too much fun talking in front of a whole auditorium of new and veteran bloggers. I was asked to speak about Video Blogging 101. So pretty much the basics of Video Blogging. I of course, added a little twist to this and titled my talk: “Are you Sexy Enough to be a Video Blogger?”

The video will be out soon and I’ll post links to that. You can see some notes from that talk, that were featured in the iBlog6 “Digit@l Magazine” here – “Are you Sexy Enough for Video Blogging?”

Anyway, I just wanted to share some links, insights and pictures from some bloggers I found who were there to see my talk. Hopefully they liked it and hopefully they learned something cool from it. If anything, I’m hopeful people do know that they ARE sexy enough to be a video blogger!

VIDEO BLOGGING

I’ve been really planning to make my own channel in YouTube. Although I have one, it only contains my college video projects. It was until yesterday that I realized how video blogging is important to a blogger like me.

The fun video blogging lessons were presented by Vince G. (I’m sorry I forgot the last name). He’s a DJ at Mellow 94.7 (yeah! I listen to that radio station). According to DJ Vince (http://wheninmanila.com) video blogging doubles the power of your blog. I think he made his point. Video can be present in your blog as well as other platforms like YouTube, Vimeo and Veoh. Actually, if you put your videos to these three platforms it doesn’t just double your blogging power but it’s four times better than just publishing an article in your WordPress or Blogger site.

I like it when he said: “It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you.” Now that’s one rocking statement! It can somehow be associated to being famous. He showed us some clips on YouTube about famous video bloggers/personalities. He showed us “David After Dentist”, which I couldn’t believe that I never heard or watched before. It was really funny!

Because of that, I got more inspired to make my YouTube channel active. I also have a channel in Vimeo (search for Sai Verano) but I haven’t uploaded any video yet. It’s a channel for business tips and principles.

Ishmael Fischer Ahab of http://theparadoxicleyline.blogspot.com had a quick comment about my presentation:

Vince Golangco’s presentation on video blogging opened up some ideas in my mind. If I will pursue video blogging in the future, his tips and tricks will be definitely useful.

Vince Golangco is very entertaining. I like it that we are learning something while he makes really good jokes! Its an entertaining presentation. He shows videos and funny clips and still makes a point.

Fact or Fiction

Swallowed chewing gum takes seven years to digest and pass through your system.

FICTION

Actually, chewing gum is largely indigestible, but it will make its way through your digestive system at the same rate as anything else you consume.

Quote of the Day

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Speaking at the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI) Awards Night

I just found out about this organization,  the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI), as I was asked by my friends, at Ex-Link Events to speak and host their awards night.

It’s a cool organization that helps college kids to get  a feel for the corporate business world. I was thoroughly impressed by the level of professionalism and drive that the college students had.

See each college / university has it’s own chapter of the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI). Each chapter represents a company that the students need to run and manages just like a regular corporation. They have products to sell, campaigns to market, customers to satisfy and deadlines to meet. At the end of every year, they all come together for an annual toast and awards ceremony to honor the stand-outs of each university.

JAPI IN A NUTSHELL

Junior Achievement is a singular achievement of a unique youth development program for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and business leaders.
In JA, you “learn business by doing business”.

JA is a practical economic education program
Organized and manage your own small scale business
Guided by adult advisers/consultants from the business community

You can find out more about JAPI on their website http://japionline.org

It sort of reminds me of my business organization from my own alma mater San Diego State University (SDSU). I was the President of the premier international co-ed business fraternity – Alpha Kappa Psi. This decision of mine to join an organization that promoted growth, professionalism and leadership was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. Not just because of all that professional mumbo jumbo, but also because I met like minded individuals whom I know now as my best friends.

Just thought I’d share some thoughts on this in case anyone still in school is reading. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend that you find and join an organization that is in tune with your own personal ideals. Whatever it may be, just get involved. Join an glee club if you like singing, join a cosplay club if you like anime, join a dance club if you like dancing, join a drama club if you like acting. Whatever it is you like, find others who enjoy it to and surround yourself with people who will accept you for who you are and push you to greater heights within that realm.

Just my two cents. AKPsi for life!

Speaking at the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI) Awards Night

Speaker at De La Salle University LEAP (Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program)

I spoke today at the De La Salle University, Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program or LEAP.

LEAP is a one-day event that aims to holistically develop Lasallians by offering alternative classes which cater to their special interest.

In front of about 40 students, I discussed the topic of: “Personal Branding & Blogging.”

It was a lot of fun being back in a college / university. I never really realized how different I am today as compared to my college days.

The Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program (LEAP) is an annual activity during the University Week. It is sponsored by the Council of Student Organizations (CSO) and its accredited organizations, Student Council (SC) and its college and batch assemblies, and some offices in the University.  This annual activity was approved by the Council of Deans in 2001, and has been supported by the university community since then. This year the LEAP is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2010.  The LEAP activity is implemented as follows.

In lieu of regular classes for the Tuesday, February 16, undergraduate students will attend one seminar/workshop as an alternative class.  They can attend a morning session from 0900 to 1200 hrs. or an afternoon session from 1300 to 1600 hrs.  Students are expected to have pre-registered for their preferred class.  At the end of the session, students would be given certificates, which they would have to present to their teachers as proof of their attendance.  Students who fail to attend an alternative class will be marked absent in all their regular classes for that day.

Anyway, I’ll post more about what I talked about and how it went on a different blog post.
