First Day at Channel [V] interviewing Miss Philippines Earth Athena Mae Imperial

I was nervous as hell! Not that I haven’t hosted or been on TV before… but I guess there was just something about being really excited about a job or an event that you think is really cool!

It was more of the “damn this is too good to be true” type jitters that had me shaken up a bit.

I’ve heard of big stars, celebrities, rockers and all the big stage performers talking about how they needed some fix to help calm them before performing on the big stage. I would have totally taken whatever they were taking if someone had offered me something just to calm myself.

Overall, I had a blast anyway!

On my first day at Channel [V] Philippines, I interviewed the winners of the Miss Philippines Earth pageant including Miss Philippines Earth 2010 winner Athena Mae Imperial, Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2011 Tarhata Clio Shari Rico, Miss Philippines Fire 2011 Michelle Gavagan and Miss Philippines Water 2011 Murielle Adrienne Orais.

My cohost for this Channel V special feature was Star World international VJ, Cliff Cole.

We have a lot more shows and features lined up so stay tuned! I’m just glad to get that first feature out of the way to loosen me up a bit.

Here’s to more fun stuff in the near future! (oh and word on the street is that other than my own show on Channel V, I’ll be VJing a lot and already have an interview with Manny Pacquiao lined up…. BOOHYAH!)

Week 2: Clean My Dirty Filthy Mouth Report

I remember a co-worker of mine named George, always had this pet peeve against that people who did their job half-assed. George would say that it’s such a waste of time because though you may have been able to rush through the task initially, in the end, you’d just end up having to re-do the entire job or even end up with more work to do, just to cover up for the initial half-assedness… (is that a word?)

With that said I’m now making a pledge of “TOTAL CARE.”

Total care applies to everything from caring about my loved ones, caring about my planet, caring about both my girlfriends… and caring about my health!

First and foremost with my health would be my teeth. You’ve all heard the dentist tell you that the best way to protect them is do the trifecta! Brush, Floss and Gargle!

I’m on my second week of this six week Total Care challenge of Listerine and we’ll see what the dentist says on my evaluation checkup.

As for you guys, my loving readers, NOW is finally the time to make that promise, to make that PLEDGE to yourself to prevent plaque buildup! Reduce that bad plaque, which often leads to serious oral problems! Why wait until it’s too late… your teeth should not be left uncared for!

Someone left a post-it on a note that was given to me in the office the other day. I looked down upon this yellow square piece of paper that probably took half a tree to make and thought to myself… WTF!

A Post it? I haven’t seen that in ages! OMG, like really?

I just got me thinking about how much technology has improved our lives lately.

Instead of Post-its nowadays on my wall, I get posts on my wall from Facebook.

Instead of mountains of files I now carry around a tiny USB.

Instead of a courier pigeons or, even more ghastly: pagers, we all now have sleek cell phones that can call our friends direct instead of blurting out our most intimate words to an operator who types it out to be paged.

Oh and best of all, thanks to new technologies like Facebook, we’ve all moved on from those other prehistoric forms of communication… Friendster!

Life is indeed much better thanks to technology!

We don’t need to be of a certain religion to be kind, loving and peaceful.

1. THE CALM – Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.

2. THE DIGNITY – Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY _ The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.

4. THE GRACE – People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER – No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE – Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?

7. THE TENDERNESS – Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak.

8. THE TRAINING – The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.

The Magical World of Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland was AMAZING!!! Come enjoy this magical place especially for their exclusive 5^th Year Anniversary parade called the Flight of Fantasy.

I was finally able to find some time to check out the happiest place on earth! I thought it was only fitting for me to get some inspiration on “happiness” especially considering the fact that I host the radio program that claims to be the “Happiest show on Radio!” – The Wake Up Show on Mellow 94.7 which can be heard Mondays – Fridays, 6am – 10am.

I’ll be writing my specific accounts of each step I took in Disneyland on my travel blog – WhenInManila.com.

But all I can say for now is that YOU NEED TO GO!!! When you do, be sure to stay at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel! That’s probably the best advice I can give you. See, the longest lines at the park seemed to be those to take pictures with the stars like Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell, Chip n Dale, Donald, Goofy, the Disney Princesses and more! But, the secret is that these Disney stars actually come visit the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel for exclusive shoots in the lobby and during the breakfast meet n greet. I’ll talk more about that special meet and greet breakfast at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel Enchanted Garden in another post so stay tuned for that.

Oh and I also just wanted to point out how easy it was to get to Hong Kong Disneyland from the airport. The information booth recommended a taxi cab which only cost about $125 HKD.

Anyway, other than staying at the hotel, I also recommend at least two days (if not more) to roam around the Hong Kong Disneyland Park to fully experience the whole thing. Of course, if you’re a big kid like me, two days is hardly enough. Moreover, try to spend some time in the Hong Kong areas as well since the shopping, food and night life is just breathtaking there!

For now, I just want to thank Mickey and Minnie for being such amazing hosts!!! That was definitely an experience to remember! I really felt so much like a kid again with such wonderful memories and experienced storybook-type fun times!

A Big Weekend For Bubble Teams

As the NCAA basketball tournament looms on the horizon, some teams are starting to jockey for position in order to get the best possible seeds. But more importantly, some teams are just looking to get hot so they can make it into the Big Dance, and here is a look at five teams who need a win to keep their Tournament dreams alive.

West Virginia – Some have the Mountaineers in the Tournament comfortably, but they have a 7-6 record in the Big East ahead of a tough closing stretch, starting with a visit from Notre Dame, and then they have the second edition of the “Backyard Brawl” at Pittsburgh next week. Some experts don’t believe that the Big East should have as many as eight teams in the Tournament, a record they set, so the Mountaineers need to move up the standings.

Boston College – The Eagles were cruising along, but have dropped four of six and have an extremely tough trip to North Carolina this weekend. Boston College missed the NCAA basketball tournament last year, and a win in Chapel Hill may be what puts them over the top.

Michigan State – No team has been more disappointing then the Spartans, who went from the Final Four last season to a bubble team in 2011. The Spartans haven’t missed the Tournament since 1997, and they may have to run the table to get there again, starting with this weekend’s visit from Purdue.

Butler – Speaking of disappointments, the Bulldogs came within a shot of one of the biggest championship upsets in history against Duke last season, but now they may need to win the Horizon tournament to make their fifth straight appearance at the Big Dance. However, the Bulldogs have won five in a row ahead of a visit from Illinois-Chicago, and they should have seven straight wins to take some momentum into the Horizon tournament, which they have won in two of the last three years.

Washington State – The Cougars missed the Tournament in 2009 and 2010, and they sit at 7-7 in the Pac-10 as they prepare for this weekend’s visit to Arizona State. More importantly, the Cougars will travel to rival Washington on February 27^th and that could hold the key to Washington State punching their Dance ticket. They’ve already beaten the Huskies once this year, and if they could claim a massive win on the road against their state rivals, they would have an excellent shot at reaching the Tournament, even without winning the Pac-10 tournament.

Jamie (Will Estes, Reunion, U-571) is the youngest Reagan, fresh out of Harvard Law and the family’s “golden boy”; however, unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decides to give up a lucrative future in law and is now a newly minted cop. Jamie’s life takes an abrupt turn when he is asked to become part of a clandestine police investigation even his father knows nothing about and which might have been related to the death of his brother, Joe.

Indeed, what sets Blue Bloods apart from the run-of-the-mill cop drama is its focus on blood ties and the clashes that inevitably arise from having a family of cops and a daughter as a prosecutor. As Tom Selleck shared in an interview, “One of the key elements of the show almost every week is a family dinner. Frank is a patriarch of a family… They’re Irish and they’re Catholic and they argue a lot at family dinner but it seems to be one of the favourite parts of the show.”
