World Kindness Day

Nov 13. The Kindness Movement has gone global! The World Kindness Movement grew out of a series of Kindness Conferences convened by the Japanese Small Kindness Movement in 1996. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, USA, has been a part of these conferences along with representatives from Japan, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Thailand and England. This day represents the pledge of each of these countries to join together to build a kinder and more compassionate world.

Moment of Zen

For what it’s worth, it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit… start whenever you want… you can change or stay the same. I hope you live a life that you’re proud of and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” – Benjamin Button

Two cultures. One platform.

In a world of chaos, there is a simple language that binds us all: movement. That is why E-Dance Theatre decided to take hiphop off the streets and merge it with modern/ contemporary dance to tell a story.

fUSEd is a gamble on the single similarity between two different dance forms that are not normally associated with each other: the need to differentiate, the search for a unique expression. Hiphop is a product of communities looking for an identity in the streets where they felt free to express themselves, modern dance is a break-away from the rigidities of classical ballet. Despite the varying techniques, E-dance bravely took the challenge to weave these two dance forms together in an effort to create a new dimension in performing arts.

fUSEd charms the audience through the creative portrayal of daily life. The nameless characters tell the story of you and me, the person right next to you on the train, the one you passed on the street on your way to work, the one you might bump into on your lunch break, fellow travelers going in, out, and along this chaotic world.

Born in 2002, E-Dance Theatre is a group of young independent artists seeking alternative spaces to enhance their technique and experiment with different forms of performing arts. Inspired by the growth of multi-media and interactive technology, and the contemporary dance tradition, E-dance engages in collaborative experiments with other artists from different fields, exploring the different approaches to creating dance.

fUSEd is E-Dance’s most recent experiment, made possible with the special participation of Philippine All Stars. Showing on November 12, 2010, at Tanghalang Pasigueño, Pasig City. For more info, please contact Katrina @ 09178228601

Moment of Zen

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Happy Even After: Free Workshop for Single Moms

Happy Even After: Free Workshop for Single Moms

There are various reasons why one becomes a single parent. The most common reasons being by chance or by deliberate choice in the case of ending a bad relationship.

But there are also other reasons one becomes a solo parent. One may have lost their partner; or are raising nieces and nephews as their own as guardians (a common occurrence here in the Philippines considering our extended families) or those whose partners are OFWs.

As different as their reasons may be, solo parents all have to deal with the daunting and difficult balancing act of being both a father and mother to a child. They all need guidance on how to cope and information on how to best raise their children under such circumstances.

Sex and Sensibilities.com, a website that aims to empower women by arming them with rights-based information will hold a workshop for solo parents on November 14.

Ana Santos, founder and editorial director of Sex and Sensibilities.com and writer Karen Kunawicz, will speak about their individual experiences on single parenting and share their insights.

Knowing that the start of feeling good is looking good, The Body Shop will also give a short demo to teach the participants how to put on make-up in the least amount of time.

This is a FREE workshop and a pilot test for Sex and Sensibilities.com (SAS) who has received many inquiries and requests about holding workshops/dialogues for solo parents. If successful, SAS will roll out a workshop series that will tackle other aspects of solo parenthood: financial management and budgeting, finding the right yaya, legalities, blended families, and dating again.

“Happy Even After” will be on November 14, Sunday at 9am-11am. Venue is the 2F of Starbucks Ortigas Home Depot, J. Vargas Avenue, Ortigas. Slots are limited. Please reserve your FREE slot by messaging 0927.307.9608.

Holcim student essay contest on sustainable construction extended

Cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines has extended the deadline of the essay contest of its journalism competition on sustainable construction.

The Holcim Journalism Award for Sustainable Construction’s student category, which is open to all college students enrolled this school year, is now set to end on November 12 instead of the original deadline of October 20.

Students may discuss sustainable construction concepts and projects in an essay at least 1,000 words long but no longer than 1,500 words. Articles in the Student Category should be original and not have been printed in any school or media publications.

Sustainable construction refers to the practice of building structures in ways that are economically viable, friendly to the environment, and beneficial to society.

A multisectoral panel will select 10 finalists. The writer of the best essay will be awarded P50,000 in cash plus a three-day stay in Singapore in November 2011 to attend the regional awarding ceremony of the Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction.

Participants may email their entries to holcimjournalismawards@gmail.com or mail it to the Holcim Philippines office. For inquiries, you may visit http://holcimjournalismawards.ph or call the Holcim Journalism Awards secretariat at 4593497.

The Media Category is set to end on March 23, 2011.

Hallowe’en or All Hallow’s Eve

Oct 31. An ancient celebration combining Druid autumn festival and Christian customs. Hallowe’en (All Hallow’s Eve) is the beginning of Hallowtide, a season that embraces the Feast of All Saints (Nov 1) and the Feast of All Souls (Nov 2). The observance, dating from the sixth or seventh century, has long been associated with thoughts of the dead, spirits, witches, ghosts and devils. In fact, the ancient Celtic Feast of Samhain, the festival that marked the beginning of winter and of the New Year, was observed Nov 1.

Trick or Treat or Beggar’s Night

Oct 31. A popular custom on Hallowe’en, in which children wearing costumes visit neighbors’ homes, calling out “Trick or treat” and “begging” for candies or gifts to place in their beggars’ bags. In recent years there has been increased participation by adults, often parading in elaborate or outrageous costumes and also requesting candy.

Facts about ghosts:

What Is A Ghost?

Ghosts are defined as the disembodied spirits of once living breathing human beings. It is said that ghosts haunt certain places particularly where there may have been great tragedy or a person’s life has been cut short. Though there have been reports of ghost cars, trains and ships.

And there appears to be two distinct types of ghosts. Residual ghosts simply replay events from the past over and over. Usually in a residual haunting the ghost or spirit is not able to react to a live human or talk to them. Residual hauntings appear to simply be events from the past playing over and over in the same place and usually at the same time or under the same conditions.

And then there is the type of ghost or spirit that can interact and communicate with the people around it. This is usually the most frighting type of ghost.

Devil’s Night

Oct 30. Formerly a “Mischief Night” on the evening before Halloween and an occasion for harmless pranks, chiefly observed by children. However, in some areas of the US, the destruction of property and endangering of lives has led to the imposition of dusk-to-dawn curfews during the last two or three days of October.

Haunted Refrigerator Night

Oct 30. Who knows what evil lurks in the refrigerators of men and women? It’s time to be afraid, very afraid. Gather friends, open the refrigerator door and venture unto the realm of the lower shelf, rear. That “thing” inside that container is much more horrifying than any haunted hayride.

On this day Oct 30

“It’s so FLUFFY!!!!”

Halloween 2009: UP with Vince

Celebrating Halloween in the U.S. of A. is one of the best experiences that I love coming back to! It’s a billion dollar industry here that’s taken with the utmost sincerity!

See some of my past Halloween costumes here – Halloween Costumes Blast from the Past

This year (2009), I had three choices of what I would dress up as…. the first two costume ideas were…

Single Ladies – LOL LOL LOL !!! This would have been a total hit! This would be from the Beyonce music video to her hit “Single Ladies” which was later on parodied on Saturday Night Live by Justin Timberlake and others. Now the problem with this was that one, none of my other guy friends had the balls to do this with me, and two, we realized that it might not be the best costume for when nature calls. My friend brought up a good point that having to pull off the leatard, pull down the stockings, deal with whatever underwear I’d be wearing, find my way in the dark porta-potty and add to that balance on my heels…. would be an almost impossible task. So kinda shifted away from that.

Kanye West – Kanye’s smooth move at the Video Music Awards would have made this costume SOOOO much fun! I would just be an asshole all night long! I would jump in front of people as they were taking pics and just say “Imma let you finish taking your pic, but I just wanted to say that Beyonce has the best camera ever!” or something to that degree. But I didn’t want to paint myself “black” nor did I want to shave my hair off and add in those crazy swirls or designs he had on his head. So had to pass on this… OMG, but it would have been soo fun!!!

So anywayz, I instead did something that turned out pretty cool… this year, I dressed up as the old man from the Disney / Pixar movie: “UP”

Here I am with two vajayjays….

It was really fun, and I only ran into one other person who did the same thing! I wish I could have had more friends who would have dressed up as the talking dog and the bird in the movie… lol

But yeah, other than the thick coat, bow tie and wig being REALLY hot to dance / drink / party in… it was a lot of fun!

I also highly recommend watching this movie if you haven’t already!

Can’t wait for my next costume party!!!!

Halloween Costumes Blast from the Past

I love Halloween! I’d have to say that it’s the ONLY holiday that I truly live up and follow through with all its customs and traditions.

And no, it’s not just about getting into the stupidest costumes for men and the sluttiest costumes for women. It’s the entire process that goes on long before the ghouls and ghosts come out on Oct 31st.

See, the real Halloween starts weeks, even months before the actual day. It starts the second you realize that the day is slowly arriving and you start brainstorming for your costume. This task alone may take an eternity to overcome….

The next step, whether or not you’ve decided on an outfit, is to actually go out and get your needed clothing and accessories. Some go out specifically in search of an exact costume or materials they need, while the undecided go out for inspiration and help. Either way, this part is one of  my favorites as I go out with friends to try on wigs, hats, teeth, corsets and more!

Your Halloween shopping could take you from Party City, to the Halloween store that just opened last week, and even to thrift stores or Goodwill stores to get your supplies. Slowly but surely, a true Halloween practitioner gets together their entire outfit and then tells all his / her friends about it.

Hopefully, you’ve gotten all the accessories that you need, if not, last minute shopping during Halloween is just as bad as last minute Christmas shopping. So good luck finding those claws or that skirt you need on the last day… I highly recommend getting everything ready waaaaay before the day.

After it’s all said and done, you simply wait for the day… go out to the pre-party…. then continue on with the “slutpocalypse” of a drunken shitfest that we call… HALLOWEEN!!!

Anywayz, here’s some costumes I’ve had in the past… will post a summary and pics from this year’s Halloween when I’m sober enough to type again…

World’s Strongest Vagina – lifts 31 lbs with her vagina

Meet Tatiata Kozhevnikova, the 42-year-old Russian woman with the world’s strongest vagina. No, seriously, she broke records to attain that title. Incredibly enough, she lifted 14 kilograms worth of weights– almost 31 pounds– to achieve such notoriety. She has been exercising her intimate muscles for fifteen years, and has already made her entrance into the Guinness Book of Records as the possessor of the world’s strongest vagina. “After I had a child, my intimate muscles got unbelievably weak. I read books on Dao and learned that ancient women used to deal with this problem using wooden balls,” she said.

16 Things You Didn’t Know About Sleep

We spend our lives mostly doing all sorts of things that we study for, practice and fully understand. The funny thing is that we’ve never put in the time to truly comprehend the one thing we all do the most: SLEEPING!

We spend so much time sleeping in our beds, sleeping in class and sleeping with our neighbor’s wife that it’s only fair that we also spend a proportionate amount of time understanding what happens when we sleep. Why do we sleep? What goes on while we sleep? Who did you sleep with last night and why in the world do we need to spend time sleeping?

Check out the interesting info below about sleep. I swear whoever invented sleep did not work a 9-5 job with overtime!
