Berocca Breakfast to Keep the Brain Sharp and Witty

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but what they don’t say is what should be part of this ever so important first meal.

I myself need to be quick on my wits and ready for whatever the day throws me. Being a radio dj / writer / host / blogger… I tend to have all sorts of important meetings and events I need to be at all day long. Bouncing around from one venue to another while trying to stay sharp and focused can be a very tricky thing to do!

I’m looking for vitamins that will help me survive my long hectic days, to be in the fast lane and out of the rat race.

Berocca-smart-rat

Finally, a friend introduced me to Berocca! It’s like instant fuel. Furthermore, I found out that most Berocca users are CEOs, so if you want to outwit them and place yourself within their ranks, you have to have their secret – Berocca!

Berocca is like instant fuel for the mind! In today’s world, it’s those sharp minds who have the big paying positions and sit at the CEO desk!

And I did my own research, Berocca is a clinically proven combination of B vitamins and essential nutrients with a unique synergy of B vitamins (helps release the energy from the food we eat), vitamin C (colds buster) and essential minerals like calcium, magnesium and zinc (which are definitely needed by the body).

Anyway, Berocca comes in a very unique format: All I had to do was drop the tablets into a glass of water and I was ready to go on with the rest of my day with an extra boost of healthy stuff!

I liked taking mine early in the morning right before work to get my head in the game. Try it out for yourself!

6 Week Challenge Results! Did my filthy dirty mouth get cleaner?

I have to be honest, I was a bit skeptical about how much one product could really do for my filthy dirty mouth.

Six weeks ago, I was invited as one of a few bloggers to participate in this reality type challenge where we put the Listerine Total Care Mouthwash to the test.

We were asked to have our mouth and teeth evaluated before a 6-week challenge of using their Listerine Total Care Mouthwash. We had our teeth checked by the renowned dental offices of Doctor Villareal at the Bonifacio Global City’s St. Luke’s Hospital.

See that full post of Week 1 here – http://vincegolangco.com/how-to/6-week-challenge-to-clean-my-dirty-mouth/

listerine-six-6-week-total-care-challenge-manila-1

Following that was a thorough weekly update of what I was doing and how I was feeling after using the Listerine Total Care Mouthwash.

Week 1 here – http://vincegolangco.com/how-to/6-week-challenge-to-clean-my-dirty-mouth/

Week 2 – http://vincegolangco.com/events/week-2-clean-my-dirty-filthy-mouth-report/

Week 3 – http://vincegolangco.com/cool-people/week-3-listerine-total-care-challenge-to-clean-my-dirty-mouth-report/

Week 4 – http://vincegolangco.com/contests/manly-balls-in-my-mouth-challenge-accepted/

Week 5 – http://vincegolangco.com/motivational/five-5-total-care-ways-to-prepare-for-life-relationships-dates-careers-and-your-future/

And finally, after 6 weeks, I went back to St. Luke’s Hospital to see exactly what had happened in my mouth throughout these past few weeks.

The results we unbelievable! I was in for a surprise like no other!

Vince results

I was not expecting my plaque to go down 78%, my tartar to go down 91% or my gum bleeding to go down 89%!!!! The odor thing might look bad on the chart, but from the start, my odor index was actually low, at a score of 1 out of 5, meaning “there is barely any odor”.” So there really wasn’t much more to go down from from there.

listerine-six-6-week-total-care-challenge-manila-13

The dentist even asked me if I had gotten my teeth cleaned. I told them that I didn’t and they seemed really surprised as well. They also asked if I flossed a lot, and I had to admit that I missed out on a lot of flossing because of my busy schedule.

Finally, the dentists asked if I used Listerine religiously in the past 6 weeks. I told them that I had used it at least once a day but mostly, I would used it every time after I brushed my teeth.

But even beyond the numbers, I noticed that my teeth and gums do not bleed anymore. This was something the dentists told me is actually caused by plaque and tartar building up and seeping into your gums. I originally thought bleeding gums just meant that I had “sensitive” gums, but it turns out, bleeding gums means you have dirty teeth and gums. So I’m very glad to have them nice, clean and not bleeding anymore thanks to Listerine!

listerine-six-6-week-total-care-challenge-manila-3

Anyway, I’m a Listeriever (Listerine Believer) now! No more bleeding gums and I’ve never felt so kissable in my life!

So When In Manila, be sure to keep that filthy dirty mouth of yours clean to make sure you’re ready for any kisses that might come your way! Take the TOTAL CARE CHALLENGE yourself to be a LISTERIEVER too!

Five 5 Total Care Ways to Prepare for Life: Relationships, Dates, Careers and your Future

Throughout my short time in this world, I’ve come to find out a few things that has always gotten me through the tough times. Whenever I get too nervous, or too overwhelmed with the task at hand, I tend to look back at my past and try to figure out how I’ve overcome those other trials and hardships. I’ve come to a conclusion that there are five main things I do to help give me the strength and the confidence needed, let me share them with you.

Vince-Golangco-Filipino-Speaker

1. SUCCESS IS PREPARATION MEETING OPPORTUNITY

One random day, in a random city, at a random building, you’ll get into an elevator with a big shot whom you really look up to but have only seen in the magazines, watched on TV or heard on radio. But now, for whatever strange coincidence, you’ll be alone in an elevator with him/her. What do you do now? Are you ready to give your elevator spiel on why you matter? Many times in life, the biggest and best opportunities come out of nowhere. You will not have any time to stop and prepare and you may miss out on these once in a lifetime occasions. Instead, you should always be preparing yourself. Figure out what you want to do in life and start preparing. You may want to be a big TV star, so start preparing your acting skills even before the audition. You may want to be a big banker, so start preparing your financial knowledge by knowing what’s going on with the economy and with the banks. You never know who you might need to impress out of the blue. Successful people are always ready whenever the time comes. Success is preparation meeting opportunity!

2. DO YOUR RESEARCH

In many events, challenges, matches or big moments in your life, you will probably have some time to properly prepare for the situation. This is where the big players gets separated from the little boys. The real winners do their research! They research everything from the venue, the audience, the background of the event, all the way to the names of the guards at the door. Someone well prepared will be much more comfortable and confident when that said event finally takes place. Little things like showing up to the event early and checking your PowerPoint presentations on the projector or knowing where the podium is or even just meeting the organizers of the event play a big role when you finally have to give that big presentation! Do your research!

3. FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

It’s an old saying that is so much more useful when you actually implement it! Usually, before a big speech, people would pace around the backstage telling everyone in sight that they are nervous. This actually hinders your confidence and ability to do well because you are setting your mind and yourself to think that you are nervous. Instead, pretend that you aren’t. Tell yourself that you are not nervous and tell everyone else that too. If you start pretending that you’re comfortable, you might start pretending to act like a confident person and next thing you know, you actually become confident. The universe has a strange way of giving you what you ask for, make sure you’re asking it to make you confident rather than telling it to make you more nervous. Fake it til’ you make it!

4. MIND THE DETAILS

It’s all about the little details. I remember my college professor telling me that the little things matter! They matter because the little things are a reflection of how you will handle the bigger things. If you can’t be trusted with the little things, how can we trust you with the big ones. If you forget to email that document your boss told you to email, or if you misplace the copies of the lunch menu your colleagues asked you for, then when it comes down to assigning you bigger tasks, they might be a bit hesitant to ask for your service or to give you that promotion. So make sure you check all the small things. Mind the details!

5. TOTAL CARE

I use this as a metaphor for everything else like combing your hair, shining your shoes and making sure your tie is sharp! Part of having the full confidence you need is having the basic tools necessary. Always dress to impress! It’s better to dress up than to be dressed down. So keep that breath fresh! It starts not just at the moment of your big event, but from months ago. Get that suit ironed out, but that nice tie you need and start using that mouthwash for that total care you need to succeed. Confidence comes from within, it comes from what you do day in and day out. So be sure you are prepared for that big day of yours but getting ready now! Total care starts NOW!

Happy Even After: Free Workshop for Single Moms

Happy Even After: Free Workshop for Single Moms

There are various reasons why one becomes a single parent. The most common reasons being by chance or by deliberate choice in the case of ending a bad relationship.

But there are also other reasons one becomes a solo parent. One may have lost their partner; or are raising nieces and nephews as their own as guardians (a common occurrence here in the Philippines considering our extended families) or those whose partners are OFWs.

As different as their reasons may be, solo parents all have to deal with the daunting and difficult balancing act of being both a father and mother to a child. They all need guidance on how to cope and information on how to best raise their children under such circumstances.

Sex and Sensibilities.com, a website that aims to empower women by arming them with rights-based information will hold a workshop for solo parents on November 14.

Ana Santos, founder and editorial director of Sex and Sensibilities.com and writer Karen Kunawicz, will speak about their individual experiences on single parenting and share their insights.

Knowing that the start of feeling good is looking good, The Body Shop will also give a short demo to teach the participants how to put on make-up in the least amount of time.

This is a FREE workshop and a pilot test for Sex and Sensibilities.com (SAS) who has received many inquiries and requests about holding workshops/dialogues for solo parents. If successful, SAS will roll out a workshop series that will tackle other aspects of solo parenthood: financial management and budgeting, finding the right yaya, legalities, blended families, and dating again.

“Happy Even After” will be on November 14, Sunday at 9am-11am. Venue is the 2F of Starbucks Ortigas Home Depot, J. Vargas Avenue, Ortigas. Slots are limited. Please reserve your FREE slot by messaging 0927.307.9608.

How to Make a Viral Video: American Taxi Drivers Gets Job in the Philippines

If you haven’t seen this viral video above, it’s the perfect example of authentic content that can become viral with very little cost to the producers!

The problem with most companies is that they try too hard. They sit in a boardroom for four hours and “strategize” their “viral video” to promote their product or brand. The problem is that the interweb hates sales pitches and won’t bother forwarding your video to their friends if it’s a commercial.

The first thing you need to understand is that it is VERY DIFFICULT and EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that you can “create a Viral Video.” What you can do is CREATE GREAT CONTENT!

The whole part where your content goes viral is mostly organic and will do it without you pushing.

If you ever have to beg a friend to “Please repost this video,” then that simply means that you do not make a truly “viral” video.

Viral content is a creature of its own. It will get passed on and reposted on every Facebook page and Twitter message because it has great content.

Basically, these “viral” videos need to be so good, that not passing it on would seem illogical and passing it on would make the “passer” get some cool points.

Again, get that “Make a Viral Video” idea out of your mind! That mindset won’t get you far. What you need to do is MAKE GREAT CONTENT! Becoming “viral” is the result of your great content.

Some no-no’s if you want to make viral content include having too much branding and trying too hard. If you’re ever going to put any branding in your content that you want to go “viral.” It has to be either very subtle or the content has to be absolutely amazing! Again, no one wants to pass on a commercial (unless it’s one hell of a great commercial).

The guys on the video above titled: “Jobs Philippines – American Taxi Drivers,” Tory and Jason, are going to be my guests on Mellow 94.7 to talk about this video. They will also be my guests as I speak at the “EntrepSummit: Technopreneurs Reveal their Secrets” seminar at the Mall of Asia, organized by the Manila Junior Chamber (Manila JCs). I’ll be talking about “How to Go from Zero to Hero,” – Gaining popularity with online branding, internet marketing and help from the internet.

He never risked, he never lost, he never won nor tried.
And when he one day passed away, his insurance was denied,
For since he never really lived, they claimed he never died”

Freelance Writing Workshop with Writer’s Block Philippines

Jumpstart-Freelance-Writing-Workshop-career-class-classes

Manila, 3 August, 2010Three freelance writers dreamt of putting together a group where other writers could be inspired and armed with the proper skills to be more effective communicators.

It may have started out as a wish. But it was also the start of Writer’s Block Philippines, a group founded by Ana Santos, Nikka Sarthou and Nina Terol-Zialcita.

The trio collectively have two decades of experience in freelance writing as a career. Together, their works on lifestyle, travel, arts & culture, changemaking, advocacy, sex & relationships, and women’s issues have been extensively published both locally and internationally.

As freelance writers, they know how much effort it takes to establish and manage their own bylines and how hard it is to make writing a lucrative enterprise.

“Writer’s Block Philippines is the kind of support system that we wished we had when we were starting our own freelance writing careers,” says Santos, a sex & relationship columnist and sexual health advocate. Santos, who also writes about armed conflict in Mindanao, has had her work published in international publications like IRIN News, the humanitarian news agency of the United Nations.

“There’s a misconception that freelance writing does not entail serious work, but it’s actually a business in itself,” Sarthou says. “Aside from practicing the craft, you have to disciplined enough to manage your projects and meet all your deadlines. Through our workshops, we’ll share  practical tips and insights on how to  go about with having a freelance writing career.” Sarthou focuses more on lifestyle writing. She also manages corporate accounts, which give her the flexibility to pursue her other passions such as traveling.

Writer’s Block Philippines conducts writing workshops that cover a wide range of topics to get writers started on their freelance writing career.

The warm reception of their first workshop inspired Santos, Sarthou and Terol-Zialcita to do another run of “How to Jumpstart Your Freelance Writing Career 2.0” on August 22  and 29, 2010 at Powerbooks, Greenbelt 4,  Makati. The two-day workshop will focus on writing techniques and practical insider information on how to get started with freelancing and is supported by Powerbooks and Travelife magazine.

“We were overwhelmed and also very happy about the response we got to the first workshop which was sold out,” says Terol-Zialcita, who is also a poetess and political communicator. “This session will be beefed up with more hands-on coaching on writing and a section on ethics. We included an ethics portion because we believe in maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity in writing.”

While the most common avenues for freelance writing may be magazines and newspapers, “How to Jumpstart Your Freelance Writing Career 2.0” will discuss the variety of non-traditional media and international publications that can be tapped and the nuances of writing for each specific media.

“How to Jumpstart Your Freelance Writing Career 2.0” will be held on August 22 and 29, 2010. Log on to writersblock.ph@gmail.com or message 0927.850.8280 for more information. Avail of a special Early Bird rate of P3,500 for the two-day workshop by making a reservation on or before August 6, 2010.

For media inquiries, please contact:
Ana Santos:

Writer’s Block Philippines believes that writing is both art and craft, both creative and methodical, a form of expression and a discipline. Writing itself is only one aspect of “writing”; a culmination of other processes that make it easier for you to write your piece. Through its workshops, Writer’s Block will bring all these different processes together and teach you how to be an effective writer.

How to Make Your Social Network WORK for You

WOW! My guest for my segment “Edumacate Me!” really prepared a lot of stuff for us!

“Edumacate Me!” is a segment that’s part of the radio show called “The G-Spot” w/ DJ Vince G where we try to learn something new every Sunday from the guests that come on air with us at Mellow 94.7

My guest this week is Ms. Carissa Villacorta, the author of the book called “Surreality” and one of the Top 100 Most Influential Filipinas in the US.

TALK TOPIC:

How To Make Your Social Network Work For You (and everyone else)

We always hear about

Intellectual Quotient

Emotional Quotient from a popular book

How about Social Quotient

How to grow in social intelligence

I feel that endorsements and interviews are the two top ways to get a job. So in a way, they’re results of people liking you enough to recommend you or hire you.

How to make the change from being socially inept to becoming socially adept

I am not claiming to be a teacher, as I myself am still a student of life and relationship building

I’ve realized that when I meet new people, I have a tendency to ask not only

How are you?

But also

“How can I help you?”

Though I don’t always say it aloud.

We all appreciate help. Whether in finding jobs, clients, baby sitters, PR opportunities, or making our dreams come true.

Everybody wants to be Cinderella, but they’re not always successful because they want it for themselves. My suggestion is that we all become Fairy Godmothers to each other –We can introduce them to prince charming, make them a dress and take them to the ball. Because only when we are all Fairy Godmothers to each other can we all become Cinderellas too – our dreams come true.

Noone is ever self-made. We are all products of the kindness and generosity of people we’ve met along the way.

And so you can never say thank you enough.

PR for me does not only stand for  public relations, but it means personal relations

You only have one chance to make an encounter count. People may not meet you ever again. Or you may not meet them ever again. So make the 10 minutes they choose to spend with you a positive and pleasant time.

It only takes a moment, to make, or break an impression.

•         A moment is a retail of time.
Make the moment count.

•         It’s not only about the peso counter, but also about the personal encounter
From the onstage impression to the offstage experience

MAKE THAT ENCOUNTER COUNT

Don’t give them a chance to say cute nga pero snob. The best thing people can say about you is “Gwapo na, mabait pa.” Or “Mabait na, guwapo pa.”

What’s the use of knowing a lot of people to look for a job if none of them want to help you? You know those people you don’t ever want to see again? You don’t want to be one of those people right?

George Washington said in his Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior from the 1700s

Everything done in company must be in consideration of everyone who is present

Always be considerate of people who are on the same room, same street, same country – people who are going to be affected, sometimes disturbed by what you do. Ask Is this right, is this decent, is this considerate?

==

HOW TO GROW IN SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

Don’t drop names of people you don’t really know or don’t know you

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

It’s not who you know it’s who knows you.

It’s not who knows you, its who likes you.

Don’t overpromise. Don’t talk too much. Just do your best, pray for the rest and let the results do the talking.

Try not to backstab. You don’t want to see bloody backs everywhere right? You don’t want someone to have a bloody back. You don’t want a bloody back. So don’t stab people with sharp words, especially behind their backs.

Strive not to improve others, but to improve yourself in patience, tolerance and understanding.

Words can break relationships. Especially those you hear from other people.

Conversations are two-way dialogues. They’re not monologues. There was a guy I’ve hung out with thrice already  before he found out (from someone else) where I worked and what I do.  Then he seemed surprised. That’s because he never asked me.  He kept on talking about himself for hours on end. And I didn’t want to interrupt his monologue.

Here are the top recent realizations I have while learning about PR or what is commonly known as public relations, but what I call Person Relations

1. Showing up is the greatest compliment. Staying in touch is the second best compliment.

2. The 24-hour cancellation policy should apply not only in restaurant or hotel reservations but also in social commitments. It’s hard to book another guest, as much as it is to book a new appointment in your day.

3 It has always been my job / second nature to invite friends and strangers to events and goings on. But I only invite up to three times. Decline it, and you will not hear from me again. (Ping Pong)

4. Just say yes. I’m a yes girl. Yes to all invites, openings and opportunities. Let the wind take you to doors that open up for you. And some doors are opened up through invites.

5. I’m allergic to flakes. I hope noone lets it happen that they’re described as flakes. They’re people who say they’d come but actually don’t.

Inversely, I like it when people come on time – plus points for early. Reliability is key.

5.  Respect your word. I strive to live by ‘And the word was made flesh.’ They say ‘don’t say it if you don’t mean it.’ I say, don’t say it if you won’t do it. Make it real.

6. The easiest thing to do is to be happy for other people’s success. I don’t know why other people find it hard.

7. People must have a balance of confidence and humility. There are some who are painfully shy, and there are some who are PAINFULLY confident. Both are equally disturbing. Strike a balance and you won’t turn others away.

8. I don’t understand how people can make saying sorry a habit. How about not doing anything that requires an apology? And only say you’ll make it up if you really would.

Confident but not cocky. Cultured but not flashy.

Humility, gratitude, honesty, courtesy and genuine interest in others are still key.

Confident but not self-absorbed.
Well-bred but not flaunting.
Accomplished but not flashy.
Initiates but not flaky.
Humility and genuine interest in others are still key.

Rule of the world is give and take. We should all start in giving.

Start happy.

Live in peace.

Show up. Keep your word. And keep in touch.

I love socially adept people. They just know what to say, when to say it. How do they do it, and when did they learn it? Kudos to their parents!

Teaching Kids from Smokey Mountain about Blogging

I just got an invite for an opportunity to change lives in a positive way. Tomorrow, Saturday June 19, I’ll be speaking to 25 kids from Smokey Mountain about the powers of blogging. I’ll be telling them about the cool things I’ve been able to do and the achievements my fellow bloggers have accomplished because of a simple blog.

We’re hoping to inspire them to also put their thoughts into words and maybe, just maybe, someone will be able to find their amazing personalities and may be able to help them reach their dreams and goals.

I’m a firm believer that ONE PERSON can make a difference and I’m hoping that positive things come out of this.

Below was the letter I was sent just yesterday. My schedule was full, but I had to clear it up a bit for this really amazing event!

I’ll post updates and pictures after the event! I’m really excited and nervous about this one! Hope it goes well!

BUHAY KO SA SMOKEY MOUTAIN: Invite from Manila Jaycess

Hi Vince!

Thanks for your support! As we briefly spoke on the phone, VJ and I are doing a project with the Manila Jaycess. Our project, entitled BUHAY KO SA SMOKEY MOUNTAIN aims to teach kids how to use blogging to change their lives. It is a weekly session, starting this Saturday.

For this weeks session, what we hope your talk will achieve is to introduce the world of blogging to the kids. At the end of the talk, we hope that we will create an excitement in the kids that they want to learn. It will be more of an inspirational talk, not a technical talk about blogs. Maybe you can show them your blog (wheninmanila.com) and other blogs. The stories behind the blog is as important as the blog itself. It would be great if you can bring other bloggers or other members of your team =)

The session will start 2 PM but your talk will start 230 PM and end 4 PM. I’ll forward you the map going to the center. This is in partnership with Young Focus Foundation. The center will have 25 computers all with internet access. We can provide you with a computer and an LCD projector if you need to show them any visual presentation like blogs or other stuff.

The event will be documented by Range Finder Philippines.

I have CC’d VJ so if you have any questions, please let us know.

I’m sure the kids will be really excited to have a DJ there =)

Thanks again!

A Short Bio of the Kids:

– High school to college students
– 25 participants
– All computer and internet literate
– Most of the have facebooks and plays farmvilles actually

UPDATE: Here’s some pics and info from that awesome event! Was a lot of fun speaking to the kids! – http://www.wheninmanila.com/teaching-blogging-to-smokey-mountain-kids-buhay-ko-philanthropy-projects/
