Fact or Fiction

If you’re in a plane crash, the chances of survival are slim.

FICTION

Despite the horror stories like the no-survivor TWA Flight 800, most people in plane crashes make it through. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), 95.7 percent of passengers involved in plane crashes survive. The statistics are promising because a majority of the airplane accidents involved only nonfatal injuries and aircraft damage.

From 2000 to 2008, NTSB data show that 6 percent of all reported airline accidents resulted in multiple fatalities.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.” -Buddah

Creating That Lasting Impression (Edumacation on Job Hunting & Blind Dating)

On my radio show, “The G-Spot” with DJ Vince G, I have a segment I call “Edumacate Me!” where my listeners and I try to learn something new from a guest I bring on. This week’s guests were some TV show hosts and executives at an online job portal who were here to teach us how succeed at finding a job and going on a blind date…. AT THE SAME TIME!

My guests, Marybeth Nave and Fritz Capulong, said that finding a job and going on a blind date are pretty much the same as you don’t know what to expect for both of them, but also, because the way to succeed for both is to “Create That Lasting Impression” that will make your potential employer, or potential mate, remember you.

We had way too many callers with questions and inquiries, but fortunately, our friends gave me more info for you to use before you go out on that blind date, or before you go out for your next job interview.

Hope you learn a lot and get a good “edumacation” from this!

Edumacate-Me-The-G-Spot-with-DJ-Vince-G-Mellow-947-guests-Marybeth-Fritz Edumacate-Me-The-G-Spot-with-DJ-Vince-G-Mellow-947-guests-Marybeth-Nave

Creating That Lasting Impression

Looking for a job is like going out on a blind date; to get that job or get another date with your dream girl, you must be able to create a positive and lasting impression.

Most of the executives and HR personnel I’ve talked with said, as much as they want to get the possible candidates among all the applicants it is the one whom they remember that they eventually hire. I can same the same thing with dating. Friends and acquaintances that I’ve spoken with said that they go out with the most interesting person they know.

The questions, now, is how can you make a very good lasting impression?

  1. Know your strengths – there are many people who can do the same things you are doing. At the same time, there are so many people who are more qualified than you on certain things. But what can help you stand-out?

It is your strengths? Each of us are unique. We have different gifts to offer. Knowing your talents and strengths will make you stand-out. A common example is when we see a bombshell that is holding hands and walking with an average Joe. We often see comedians going out with models who are young enough to be their daughters. Why do these comedians stand-out? What makes these bombshells go out with these average Joes?

Comedians know how to play on their strengths. They know how to maximize it for a lasting impression. They make these beautiful women laugh and have a good time. They make people feel good about themselves.

How can you find your strengths? What do you like doing without someone telling you about it? What can you do for hours and not get bored? How can you make a difference with what you like doing?

  1. Highlight your strengths – the only way to get noticed by people is when you tell them how good you are. You must be your own cheering squad!

How do you tell people about your strengths without sounding too proud? Tooting your own horn too loud will cause some people to tune you out or be turned-of. You must be able to do it with such grace that it is almost a soft sell.

When you are applying for a job, use the power of the internet. Blogging is very easy. Creating your own home page is now very affordable. You can ask your prospective employers to look at your site or for artists or creative designers, your portfolio. You can use Multiply or Facebook.

When going out on a blind date, ask your friends to build you up! You can treat this friend afterwards. There is nothing like a testimonial from other people; whom your date trusts, to build up your reputation. The key here, make your date excited to see you.

The key here is to make yourself stand-out.

  1. Impression – how do you want to be remembered is one things you should think about. You have been invited by your dream company for an interview or your blind date to eagerly meet you… what can you do to make them remember you and ask you to come back?

People create an impression of us from the moment we enter the door to the moment we leave the place. To be able to create a very good impression, we must able to conduct ourselves in a very professional but friendly manner. If you are a casual, people may see that you’re not respecting them.

By being professional and friendly you must have these:

  • Confidence – knowing that you have something to offer
  • Communication skills – making them understand that you have something that they need or want
  • Appearance – looking the part of what or who you say you are

When taken all these three points together, you will be able to sell yourself to your prospective company or your dream girl.

If you want more advice from my guest, you can email  fritz.capulong@gmail.com or check out his blogs at www.findurniche.blogspot.com or you can also contact MarybethNave@gmail.com.

Forever Young Lyrics… I want to be Forever Young Jay Z & Mr Hudson

Living life like a video…where the sun is always out and you never get old! and the champange is always cold…..stay in the moment smoke some weed drink some wine….FOREVER YOUNG! yes i do want to be forever young!

Full Forever Young Lyrics:

Forever Young

Jay-Z feat Mr. Hudson

[Mr. Hudson sings]
Let’s dance in style
Let’s dance for a while
Heaven can wait we’re only watching the sky
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power but we never say never
Sitting in the sandpit
Life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad man

[chorus]
Forever young I wanna be
Forevery young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever and ever
Forever young I wanna be
Forevery young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever, forever

[Jay-z sings]
So we livin life like a video
Where the sun is always out and you never get old
and the champaign is always cold
and the music is always good
and the pretty girls just happen to stop by in the hood
and they hop they pretty ass up on the hood of that pretty ass car
without a wrinkle in today
cuz there is no tomorrow
just a picture perfect day
that last a whole lifetime
and it never ends
Because all we have to do is hit rewind
so lets just stay in the moment smoke some weed drink some wine
reminisce talk some shit forever young is in your mind
leave a mark they can’t erase. Neither space nor time
So when the director yells cut
I’ll be fine
I’m forever young

[chorus]
Forever young I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever and ever
Forever young I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever, forever

[Jay-z sings]
Fear not where, fear not why, fear not much while we’re alive
Life is for living not living uptight
Until you’re somewhere up in the sky
Fear not die I’ll be alive for a million years bye bye are not for legends I’m forever young my name shall survive
Through the darkest blocks, over kitchen stoves, over Pyrex pots, My name shall be passed down to generations while debatin’ up in barber shops
Young slung, hung here, Showed that a nigga from here, With a little ambition, just what we can become here.
And as the father pass the story down to his son’s ear Young get younger every year, yeah
So if you love me baby this is how you let me know, Don’t ever let me go, thats how you let me know, baby

[chorus]
Forever young I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever and ever
Forever young I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
Forever, forever

[Jay-z sings]
Slammin’ Bentley doors, hoppin’ outta Porsche
Poppin’ Up on Forbes list
Gorgeous, hold up, Niggas thought I lost it
They be talking bullshit, I be talking more shit, They nauseous, hold up I’ll be here forever You know I’m on my four shit I ain’t with foreclosure I will never forfeit Less than four bars Guru bring the chorus in Did you get the picture yet I’m painting you a portrait of Young

[chorus]
Forever young I wanna be
Forevery young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever
Forever young

WOW! Lots of cool stuff on my show today! First of all, thanks to my guests on my segment “Edumacate Me!” – Marybeth Nave and Fritz Capulong!

Thanks for giving me and my listeners an “Edumacation” today. In case you missed it, they are both TV show hosts who work at an online job portal, Marybeth being the Vice President of Human Resources for that said job portal. They talked about how to succeed at getting a job as well as how to succeed at dating! They compare getting a job to going on a blind date as you don’t know what to expect for both of them and also because for both, in order to succeed, you need to leave a positive lasting impression that makes you stand out.

Fritz and Marybeth promised to send me a summary of things they talked about, so will have that by early next week. Also, you can contact them at MarybethNave@gmail.com and Fritz.Capulong@gmail.com if you have more questions.

Fact or Fiction

You can recover data from a failing hard drive by putting it in the freezer for a few hours and then reinstalling it in the computer.

FACT

While this method won’t magically fix whatever is wrong with your computer, it can get your hard drive working long enough for you to recover important data before it gives up the ghost for good. This generally works best when the drive is making a tell-tale clicking sound caused by overheated metal parts that have expanded. Freezing the hard drive cools and shrinks the metal so the drive will mount properly and run long enough (hopefully) for you to copy your files to another source.

DISCLAIMER – I have no clue if this works or for what type of problems this can really work on. Just found this online.

Talked about:

Shrek – The Final Chapter was fun to watch! Mellow 94.7 hosted the premier and I was able to bring my little cousins with me. It was much better than Shrek 3, which I thought was pretty bad. This one had a nice story and lots of funny moment. As always, the characters, like Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy(Donkey) and Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) were AWESOME!

Guest for “Edumacate Me” – This is my segment, every other Sunday, where my listeners and I try to learn something new from our guest. In short, we try to get an “edumacation!”

TOMORROW,  Sunday, May 23, my guest on “The G-Spot” for my segment “Edumacate Me!” will be Marybeth Nave, a TV show host and Vice President for an Online Job Portal who says that “Finding a job is like going on a blind date!” So she’s coming in to “edumacate” us on how to succeed at both! Sex shop to give away “Pope condoms”

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A Dutch sex shop will be giving away 2,000 “Pope condoms” this weekend in a dig at the Roman Catholic Church.

De Condoomfabriek (The Condom Factory) said it wanted to make a point about sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and the Vatican’s opposition to contraceptives.

The condom wrapper carries the image of a papal figure with an unmistakable general likeness to Pope Benedict, though the figure’s face is removed. It bears the words “I SAID NO! We say YES!” framing the papal image.

The suggestion of a “pope condom” caused a diplomatic row last month when Britain’s Foreign Office was forced to apologize for a memorandum by a civil servant that suggested Benedict launch a papal-brand condom on his pending visit to the UK.

Fact or Fiction

When flying in a non-pressurized airplane, a woman’s breast implants can expand until they explode.

FICTION

Sorry, but this myth is busted! Despite the bizarre stories you may have heard, no woman has suffered the pain and embarrassment of having her breasts explode on an airplane. The implants may expand a bit, particularly when flying at extremely high altitudes – but at that point no one is likely to notice, as everyone will have passed out from lack of oxygen.
Oh, and the same goes for inflatable bras, so whether the augmentation is internal or external, ladies need not forgo air travel for fear of explosion

For news, and the reason for my possible career change, was this story I read on air –

The beloved butler for a prominent New York family, who grew up in a mud hut in Nepal, has joined the city’s elite by inheriting more than $8 million, including two units at the legendary Dakota apartment building off Central Park.

Indra B. Tamang had served as a butler, cook and caretaker to Ruth Ford, an stage and screne actress, and her husband Zachary Scott, a Hollywood star, for more than three decades, the Wall Street Journal reported.

When Ruth Ford died last year at age 98, she left her entire fortune to Tamang, including the Dakota apartments and an art collection with works by Russian surrealists.

The combined weight of all the world’s ants is equal to that of all the humans on earth.

FACT

What ants lack in size, they more than make up for in sheer numbers.  According to renowned entomologist E.O. Wilson, there are an estimated 10,000,000,000,000 ants on earth, and their combined weight is equivalent to the entire human population.  That’s roughly 1.6 million ants for each person.

Quote of the Day

You must not know too much or be too precise or scientific about birds and trees and flowers and watercraft; a certain free-margin, and even vagueness — ignorance, credulity — helps your enjoyment of these things.

What’s Up with A-Pop (Asian Pop)? – The Wild Hearted Invasion

What’s going on in the world…. well especially in Manila?! The imminent rise of the Alphabet-Pop / Letter-Pop stars is upon us! Of course, when I say “Alphabet-Pop / Letter-Pop,” I’m talking about the K-Pop (Korean Pop), J-Pop (Japanese Pop), T-Pop (Taiwan Pop), S-Pop (Singapore Pop), M-Pop (Malaysian Pop), F-Pop (Filipino Pop) and Mmmmm-Bop (Pop made by three blonde girls). Ok, well maybe I just made up some (or most) of those “Letter-Pop” titles, but what I’m really trying to say that there is an A-Pop (Asian Pop) invasion that is on the radar to hit Manila.

You’ve seen the A-Pop boy-bands with 37 members and the K-Pop girls who got their start in Manila, but now a new A-Pop (J-Pop to be specific) siren seems to be stealing the limelight.

We may not know what these A-Pop stars are saying in their songs, they may be singing about world peace or eating monkey brains, but either way, we still sing along like we mean it! On the other hand, not knowing what something means never really stopped the Philippines from making something trend, I mean just look at how our fellow citizens write or text:

“EoW pFuOh! ggHuyZ, dHiD u miZ Mi? i LLyK tO knOw moR3 bOut D Nu JpOP snGerzZz like aMurO NaMiE cUz diZ gHurl iZzz zUprz HoT mhEnn! pFroUwd 2 b @ jEJ3mOn! jeJejeJeje”

(*Disclaimer: If you do not understand that statement… Hold your head up high, be proud and just move on…)

Anyway…. What was I talking about… OH YES…. J-Pop Gone “Wild!”

Amuro Namie, the J-Pop singer known widely as the “Queen of Japanese Pop Music” at the height of her popularity, is starting to catch on with Philippine Letter-Pop music lovers.

namie-amuro-so-crazy-8260-come-amouro-japanese-pop Whats Up with A-Pop Asian Pop The Wild Hearted Invasion

Along with renowned Japanese record label Avex Entertainment Inc., Amuro Namie made her Philippine debut with her hit single “Wild.” The dance/R&B/club driven track features the music of michico and T. Kura of Giant Swing Productions.  A catchy danceable song that has a futuristic groove into it, This song superbly showcases a “Wild” harmony between Amuro Namie’s matchless vocals and upbeat music. Upon the release of the chart-topping single in Japan, it became Amuro’s 11th number one single.

The talented artist moved to Wild’s electro-pop beat with all spunk and energy, owning the spotlight with her refreshing sexiness and edgy style. Showing great enjoyment of her passion, Amuro Namie rocked a to-die-for body that combines flawlessly with fierce choreography and infectious pulsations. Unquestionably, Amuro Namie, in her 30s, still looks incredibly fit and sexy now as she did when she first debuted. Not to mention that her high-energy moves and uniquely dynamic music still are beyond compare. Effortlessly, she captures what being wild at heart and at the same time fit in body means.

namie-amuro-wild-health-j-pop-singer-japanese-jpop-k-hot SWEET

Over a decade since her musical debut, Amuro Namie has remained one of the longest surviving Alphabet-Pop female acts in Japan. She is the only Japanese female artist to have achieved a Top 10 single each year for fourteen consecutive years. Not only is she an accomplished singer, Namie Amuro has perfected the art of stage performance. In her live performances and videos, it’s unmistakable that her years of training in dance always pop out. As what a critic once write about her, “she captures the hearts of her audience by the graceful animation of her stage personality. By virtue of her talents, Amuro Namie has been the most notable Japanese singer to emerge from the Japanese music culture.”

namie-amuro-put-em-up-jpop-j-pop-japanese-singer-cute AmuroNamie -Amuro-namie-namieamuro

Amouro Namie is now emerging in the Philippines as a “Letter-Pop” force to reckon with while continuing to thrill fans all over Asia and the world with her distinctively evolving sound and rhythm.

Now, we could expect Amouro Namie to be the next “Letter-Pop” sensation in the Philippines just as much as we expected the new automated elections to be a complete success… oh… wait…. Nevermind, I forgot that everyone was expecting doomsday scenarios and mass riots… bad comparison… let me rephrase that –

Now, we could expect Amouro Namie to be the next “Letter-Pop” sensation in the Philippines just as much as we expect our noon-time game shows to produce quality entertainment that not only shows off the sophistication of our nation, but also advocates intellectual pursuits and educational features… oh wait…. Damnit I did it again!!!

Anyway I’m just trying to say that she’ll probably be the next big “Letter-Pop” star in the Philippines!

So look out for this independent woman who may soon be finding herself on top of the Philippine music charts and unleashing her innate power as a stunning singer and dancer. She’s just the fitting inspiration for many out there who desires to stay vigorous and to look amazingly sexy while letting that wildly confident vibe shine.

When In Manila, you need to check out this A-Pop / J-Pop singer – Amuro Namie – who’s bound to be a local favorite in no time.

“EDUMACATE ME!”

Guest on Mellow 94.7

“Edumacate Me” is a segment where I interview interesting people with even more interesting jobs who come with something to teach and “edumate” me and the listeners with.

Today, our guest was Nash Casten and his crew from TroyDizonDating.com.

They talked about the art of “Pick-Up” but more on the dating and lifestyle aspects of it. It was a very fun and cool conversation and I totally didn’t have enough time to ask them all the questions I had.

So to summarize all that, the main thing I got was that to be able to start “picking-up” girls, meeting girls, getting their numbers and even sleeping with them, you first have to love yourself. Girls won’t be able to love you if you don’t even love yourself.

So with loving yourself comes the confidence that will start to attract everyone else to you.

To get started in getting this “confidence,” you need to find out about yourself and be comfortable with yourself. To find yourself, you just need to start doing things you love.

Let me break that down even more for you….

Do things you love = Love yourself = Others love you = Confidence = PIMP!

Yeah… I think that the E=MC2 of dating. Lol. But don’t take my word for it contact the experts, at TroyDizonDating.com, for more info.

(do let me know if you’re going to take a class with them as I’d love to have a follow up on our show with you talking about your experience.)

Fact or Fiction

For the 2010 Philippine Elections:

Each person only gets ONE ballot to vote. No one will be given a second ballot even if they made mistakes. – FACT

You need to know how to use computers to vote. – FICTION

A voter doesn’t need to touch anything on the PCOS Machine, the Board of Elections Inspector will do it for you! Don’t worry! The BEI’s know how to use them, they have been properly trained by the government. That means that people who don’t know anything about computers can still vote! The only thing you should care about is that you should shade the ovals in the ballots and make sure you insert it to the PCOS Machine correctly.

Do not tear the ballot nor but unnecessary marks on it! This will either not be counted or will be marked as invallid. There is only one ballot per person so use it wisely!

Mother’s Day
Victory Day (Russia)

In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries of former Soviet Union, the day of Victory over Nazi Germany was celebrated on May 9, because when the German Instrument of Surrender actually entered into force (May 8, 1945 at 23:01), it was already May 9 by Moscow Time. Some post-Soviet countries, most notably The Russian Federation, have continued the tradition.

Quote of the Day

“Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.” ~George Jean Nathan

“Politicians are like diapers.  They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.”

Funny / Weird News:

Lord Jesus Christ (his real name) hit by car.

Victim, injured in crosswalk, is treated in hospital for minor facial injuries.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The victim might have forgiven the woman who ran him down in aMassachusetts crosswalk, but police haven’t.

Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down a man named Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed a street in Northampton on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old man is from Belchertown. Officers checked his ID and discovered that, indeed, his legal name is Lord Jesus Christ. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries and later released, according to the local paper.

Fact or Fiction

Drinking coffee will sober you up quickly.

FICTION

There are no shortcuts to sobriety. No amount of black coffee, cold showers, exercise, or water will speed up the process. Your body processes alcohol at a constant rate of approximately .015 percent of blood alcohol content per hour, regardless of gender, weight, height, age, etc. Only time will sober you up.

Fact or Fiction

Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can kill them.

FACT

Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine (a compound related to caffeine), which can sicken and kill family pets. Three factors determine how toxic the sweet stuff will be to a particular animal: the type of chocolate, the size of the animal and the amount of chocolate ingested. The most dangerous confections are unsweetened baker’s chocolate and powdered cocoa, the least, white chocolate.

Symptoms of theobromine poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, restlessness and increased urination. In severe cases, cardiac arrhythmia and seizures can result. The possibility that an animal will kill itself with chocolate is very low. More likely it will get a nasty tummy ache. In any case, it is still prudent to keep all chocolate far away from pets.

Today is Robert’s Rules Day, a day to mark the birth, in 1837, of one Henry Martyn Robert. After Robert was disappointed in the way he himself handled a meeting, he resolved to put together a parliamentary guide to help others (and himself) facing similar situations.

Robert’s Rules of Order is the short title of a book containing rules of order intended to be adopted as a parliamentary authority for use by a deliberative assembly.

Lots of cool stuff on air! Thanks so much for joining me. We talked about my trip to Boracay and my experience Cliff Diving! Here’s a video of that so you can see for yourself how AWESOME it was!  – Boracay Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

We also talked about girls falling in love with Marc Nelson, who I ran into while cliff diving. Though what’s funnier was how guys were falling in love with Marc Nelson as well…. long story… will have a different post on that soon.

Anyway, we also talked about the Iron Man 2 premier which I hosted for Mellow 94.7 last night. It was an ok movie…. but not really one that blew my mind away as much as I would have wanted it to. Still need to see it though coz War Machine was cool, but not on the top of my list for coolest movies by a long shot!

My YouTube Video Pick of the Day

This is a crazy parody of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s song Telephone. It seems like it’s done by some locals who are VERY resourceful. I’m actually really impressed with the resourcefulness that they have for this low budget video but that really gets the video of Lady Gaga. Yeah it’s a bit Ghetto, but I’m sure they worked with a 0 budget! So any haters out there, I’d like to see you come up with a video like this with no budget. =P

Fact or Fiction

It’s hotter in the summertime because the Earth is closer to the sun.

FICTION

The Earth is actually closer to the sun in January, and farthest from the sun in July.  It’s not the distance from the sun that causes the change in seasons, but our position relative to the sun.  The Earth is tilted at a 23.5-degree angle to its orbit around the sun.  In the summer, even though it’s slightly further from the sun, the northern hemisphere is tilted so the sun’s rays hit it more directly than they do in the wintertime, which is what makes it hotter.  Because the days are longer in the summertime, the sun also has more time to heat up the Earth.

The Earth’s tilt is also why the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere.

Fact or Fiction

Men have a higher tolerance for alcohol than women.

FACT

Due to physiological differences, a woman will absorb up to 30 percent more alcohol into her bloodstream than a man of the same height and weight drinking the same amount of alcohol. Compared to men, women tend to have a higher percentage of body fat, which does not absorb alcohol, and a lower percentage of water, which does — resulting in a greater concentration of alcohol in the blood. Men also have a greater quantity of an enzyme in their stomachs that breaks down alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Since women tend to be smaller and lighter than men, they are at an additional disadvantage when it comes to holding their liquor. So, ladies, it’s best not to engage in any drinking contests with your male buddies.

Quote of the Day

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

-Steve Jobs

Life Happens… One Song at a Time

It hasn’t been too long yet since I started my job as a radio DJ on Mellow 94.7. It’s one of those jobs that I thought could only be a dream, and no more. Fortunately for me, I never really limited myself with my own glass ceiling and instead, naively set out to conquer the world.

Now as most of you know, there are many things in life that seem extremely simple from the outside looking in. This false impression makes many Guinness world records seem easy enough for a child to accomplish, but can be unexplainably complicated when you’re doing it yourself.  Well, DJing, is not really one of those jobs. It’s pretty easy, if you don’t stress out like an autistic genius in a room full of network marketers. Well, right now, I’m that autistic dude with pyramid scheming fudgetards approaching me left and right.

I don’t know why, but I have a tendency to want everything to be perfect, and it stresses me out when it’s not. Furthermore, I like planning things out two weeks in advance. So when I’m sitting in that DJ booth, two things usually happen. One – I try to plan the perfect shpeal uhhhh….. stutter… stutter…. I mean…. spiel… the perfect spiel every time I go on air. And two – I try to plan out the next hour full of adlibs, greetings, song requests, music, ads, time checks, sponsorships and the kitchen sink! Often, this results in a cluster f*ck of craziness.

So instead, I sat myself down and remembered the last time I was in a high pressure situation. It was my junior year of college and I (for reasons I still do not comprehend) ran as president for this international business organization, and WON. I was there at the first meeting with my team discussing (what seemed to be) the 500 tasks we had to accomplish within 8 weeks. This included raising a few thousand dollars, organizing two charity events, setting up professional mixers, interviewing about 50 professionals, taking in-depth exams per week, preparing presentations every week and more! Just imagine Donald Trump’s show, “The Apprentice,” with less glamor, more work and MORE DONALDS breathing down your neck!

I almost had a nervous breakdown that night.

With ways unknown to me, I somehow made it through that first meeting. Then, I somehow made it through the first night, then the next morning, the next afternoon, the next day and so on.  Eight weeks later, I was amazingly able to accomplish all the goals set out for me and my team. What I realized, was that you have to take things one step at a time.

“The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” – Chinese Proverb

I was stressing out when I thought of ALL the millions of things I had to do for the next eight weeks. Coz let me tell you, there was A LOT! But, if I break it down to one task at a time – one phone call, one email, one idea, one little meeting; then the big giant stress ball doesn’t seem so huge anymore.

I realized this while I was at work today.  I started to just worry about my next song, instead of the next 240 minutes. There is a lot you do need to do in radio – pick your songs, read some greetings, check messages sent over text, messages on Facebook, read the ads, make sure the right ads are playing, play sponsored songs, make sure your volume is ok, prepare the phone patch, get your background music going, give a time check, talk into the mic, get your news ready, then all back to getting the next song ready again coz the amount of time it took me to write this already caused that one song to pass….

Get it? Lots to do. But, instead of stressing on all that. I just need to take things one song at a time. It makes everything a lot simpler.

Somehow, they haven’t fired me yet from this DJing thing. So I guess I must be doing ok. One song at a time, I’m pretty good at that.

“Yard by yard, life is hard. But inch by inch, life’s a cinch!” -anonymous quote

Anyway, that’s my two cents for the day. Hope it helps you somehow. But I gotta go now…. My next song is up…

“Hey what’s up you’ve found “The G-Spot” Radio Show with me, DJ Vince G!”

“Up next is the song….”

Fact or Fiction

Sunscreens with an SPF of 40 or 50 provide significantly more protection against UV rays than SPF 30 sunscreens.

FICTION

Tests have shown than sunscreens with an SPF of 15 block 93 percent of UV rays, while SPF 30 sunscreens block about 97 percent. Anything higher than 30 still hovers around 97 percent. The Food and Drug Administration has recommended limiting SPF values on sunscreen labels to SPF 30 to prevent consumers from spending more time in the sun than they should
