If you’re in a plane crash, the chances of survival are slim.

FICTION

Despite the horror stories like the no-survivor TWA Flight 800, most people in plane crashes make it through. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), 95.7 percent of passengers involved in plane crashes survive. The statistics are promising because a majority of the airplane accidents involved only nonfatal injuries and aircraft damage.

From 2000 to 2008, NTSB data show that 6 percent of all reported airline accidents resulted in multiple fatalities.

Cubao X – Bastards of Misrepresentation fundraiser: Bastards vs Team Manila

Pablo Gallery in Cubao is host to a one night only urban culture fest this Saturday May 29 featuring a Live art and exhibit by We will Doodle and graphic design studio Team Manila, as well as the launch of the Bastard Series merchandise done in collaboration with Team Manila as one of an ongoing series of fundraising activity for Bastard of Misrepresentation: Doing Time on Filipino Time, a group show of Filipino contemporary art participated in by Poklong Anading, Argie Bandoy, Bea Camacho, Lena Cobangbang, Maria Cruz, Gaston Damag, David Griggs, Robert Langenegger, Romeo Lee, Pow Martinez, Jayson Oliveria, Jucar Raquepo, Gerardo Tan and MM Yu at Freies Museum in Berlin in early October. Curated by Manuel Ocampo, this exhibit will offer Berlin viewers a glimpse of the current practices in Philippine contemporary art, showcasing works by the country’s eminently active artists critically recognized for their discursive engagement with their chosen media and format, such as painting, installation, photography, video and sound art.

This exhibit is also hoped to bring about a potentially immersive presence for Philippine contemporary art in the international art scene, most especially in the vibrant art scene of Berlin. This will also prove to be a momentous opportunity for the participating artists in widening their cross-cultural engagement with this exhibit.

The launch is highlighted by a live silkscreen printing session with the artists and Team Manila as Lockedown Entertainment provides the groove for the night.

The Bastard series merchandise to be sold off for the night comprise of unique silk screen prints signed by the artists, shirts, tote bags and pins featuring one of their works.

Creating That Lasting Impression (Edumacation on Job Hunting & Blind Dating)

On my radio show, “The G-Spot” with DJ Vince G, I have a segment I call “Edumacate Me!” where my listeners and I try to learn something new from a guest I bring on. This week’s guests were some TV show hosts and executives at an online job portal who were here to teach us how succeed at finding a job and going on a blind date…. AT THE SAME TIME!

My guests, Marybeth Nave and Fritz Capulong, said that finding a job and going on a blind date are pretty much the same as you don’t know what to expect for both of them, but also, because the way to succeed for both is to “Create That Lasting Impression” that will make your potential employer, or potential mate, remember you.

We had way too many callers with questions and inquiries, but fortunately, our friends gave me more info for you to use before you go out on that blind date, or before you go out for your next job interview.

Hope you learn a lot and get a good “edumacation” from this!

Creating That Lasting Impression

Looking for a job is like going out on a blind date; to get that job or get another date with your dream girl, you must be able to create a positive and lasting impression.

Most of the executives and HR personnel I’ve talked with said, as much as they want to get the possible candidates among all the applicants it is the one whom they remember that they eventually hire. I can same the same thing with dating. Friends and acquaintances that I’ve spoken with said that they go out with the most interesting person they know.

The questions, now, is how can you make a very good lasting impression?

Know your strengths – there are many people who can do the same things you are doing. At the same time, there are so many people who are more qualified than you on certain things. But what can help you stand-out?

It is your strengths? Each of us are unique. We have different gifts to offer. Knowing your talents and strengths will make you stand-out. A common example is when we see a bombshell that is holding hands and walking with an average Joe. We often see comedians going out with models who are young enough to be their daughters. Why do these comedians stand-out? What makes these bombshells go out with these average Joes?

Comedians know how to play on their strengths. They know how to maximize it for a lasting impression. They make these beautiful women laugh and have a good time. They make people feel good about themselves.

How can you find your strengths? What do you like doing without someone telling you about it? What can you do for hours and not get bored? How can you make a difference with what you like doing?

Highlight your strengths – the only way to get noticed by people is when you tell them how good you are. You must be your own cheering squad!

How do you tell people about your strengths without sounding too proud? Tooting your own horn too loud will cause some people to tune you out or be turned-of. You must be able to do it with such grace that it is almost a soft sell.

When you are applying for a job, use the power of the internet. Blogging is very easy. Creating your own home page is now very affordable. You can ask your prospective employers to look at your site or for artists or creative designers, your portfolio. You can use Multiply or Facebook.

When going out on a blind date, ask your friends to build you up! You can treat this friend afterwards. There is nothing like a testimonial from other people; whom your date trusts, to build up your reputation. The key here, make your date excited to see you.

The key here is to make yourself stand-out.

Impression – how do you want to be remembered is one things you should think about. You have been invited by your dream company for an interview or your blind date to eagerly meet you… what can you do to make them remember you and ask you to come back?

People create an impression of us from the moment we enter the door to the moment we leave the place. To be able to create a very good impression, we must able to conduct ourselves in a very professional but friendly manner. If you are a casual, people may see that you’re not respecting them.

By being professional and friendly you must have these:

Confidence – knowing that you have something to offer
Communication skills – making them understand that you have something that they need or want
Appearance – looking the part of what or who you say you are

When taken all these three points together, you will be able to sell yourself to your prospective company or your dream girl.

Fact or Fiction

You can recover data from a failing hard drive by putting it in the freezer for a few hours and then reinstalling it in the computer.

FACT

While this method won’t magically fix whatever is wrong with your computer, it can get your hard drive working long enough for you to recover important data before it gives up the ghost for good. This generally works best when the drive is making a tell-tale clicking sound caused by overheated metal parts that have expanded. Freezing the hard drive cools and shrinks the metal so the drive will mount properly and run long enough (hopefully) for you to copy your files to another source.

DISCLAIMER – I have no clue if this works or for what type of problems this can really work on. Just found this online.

Shrek – The Final Chapter was fun to watch! Mellow 94.7 hosted the premier and I was able to bring my little cousins with me. It was much better than Shrek 3, which I thought was pretty bad. This one had a nice story and lots of funny moment. As always, the characters, like Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy(Donkey) and Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) were AWESOME!

Sex shop to give away “Pope condoms”

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A Dutch sex shop will be giving away 2,000 “Pope condoms” this weekend in a dig at the Roman Catholic Church.

De Condoomfabriek (The Condom Factory) said it wanted to make a point about sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and the Vatican’s opposition to contraceptives.

The condom wrapper carries the image of a papal figure with an unmistakable general likeness to Pope Benedict, though the figure’s face is removed. It bears the words “I SAID NO! We say YES!” framing the papal image.

The suggestion of a “pope condom” caused a diplomatic row last month when Britain’s Foreign Office was forced to apologize for a memorandum by a civil servant that suggested Benedict launch a papal-brand condom on his pending visit to the UK.

When flying in a non-pressurized airplane, a woman’s breast implants can expand until they explode.

FICTION

Sorry, but this myth is busted! Despite the bizarre stories you may have heard, no woman has suffered the pain and embarrassment of having her breasts explode on an airplane. The implants may expand a bit, particularly when flying at extremely high altitudes – but at that point no one is likely to notice, as everyone will have passed out from lack of oxygen.

Oh, and the same goes for inflatable bras, so whether the augmentation is internal or external, ladies need not forgo air travel for fear of explosion

The beloved butler for a prominent New York family, who grew up in a mud hut in Nepal, has joined the city’s elite by inheriting more than $8 million, including two units at the legendary Dakota apartment building off Central Park.

Indra B. Tamang had served as a butler, cook and caretaker to Ruth Ford, an stage and screne actress, and her husband Zachary Scott, a Hollywood star, for more than three decades, the Wall Street Journal reported.

When Ruth Ford died last year at age 98, she left her entire fortune to Tamang, including the Dakota apartments and an art collection with works by Russian surrealists.

STOP Bullying Those Whom Cannot Defend Themselves!!! Not something to LolCat about!

OK, I don’t usually react negatively or emotionally to a lot of things. I’m a really laid back type of guy and I don’t really get into confrontations or arguments with a lot of people (I can’t even really think of anyone I’m in bad terms with right now). Though there is one thing that really gets me fired up, it’s when those who can, bully those who can’t! It’s when someone who has power takes advantage of someone, or something, that has no power whatsoever to defend himself / herself / itself.

Now I’m talking about children, elderly, men or women and even animals. Yes, you are much bigger, much stronger and much more capable of hurting them, so why use that power you have to hurt someone else? Are you that insecure and feeble that you have to abuse those whom cannot protect themselves to make yourself feel like you have a bigger dick?

I just feel really pissed off right now as my sister’s cat (I’m a big animal person) came home with a rope, tied VERY tightly on his neck. It wasn’t any accidental tangle as I could clearly see it was tied. I could barely slide in my scissor to cut the rope off. Now I’m not sure if our cat (“Snug”)was tied up to something else, or how my cat was able to get away, but the rope was somehow cut loose and fortunately, our cat was able to come home ok, but seemingly very tired and very scared. I assume he had a hard time breathing with that rope tied tightly like that. Oh and also, Snug has a collar, meaning he is someone’s pet! Although, even if a cat doesn’t have a collar, it still does not give anyone any right to hurt them!

This is the rope I cut that was on our cat –

Snug’s actually a really nice cat. I mean maybe he can get a little noisy with him meowing to get attention, but he really loves people and other cats. I found out how nice he was when he once brought home a stray kitten. The kitten was barely a few days old, but we could tell that it was dying. We tried to nurse it back to health, but we found out that the kitten actually had a disease, which also made us assume that the kitten’s mom abandoned this one as to save the other kittens in the litter. Of course, this is going really far out into koo koo land, but we then imagine our cat, Snug, seeing the kitten abandoned, then brought it home to his own mom – my sister. But yes, the kitten survived a few more days but was unfortunately stricken with some really bad disease and really couldn’t make it. Either way, Snug thinks he’s a mom sometimes, even though he’s a guy cat.

Anyway, I’ve heard of people here in my little compound not liking cats and even putting them into plastic bags and throwing them into the river (though I have never personally seen this). Just want to give you a heads up that your cock does not get any bigger and you don’t get any cooler for bullying those who cannot defend themselves. Please stop what your doing and instead, try to make this world a better place. Also, I will report you to proper authorities as there are laws against cruelty to any living beings, such as cats and dogs, who feel pain just like you, who feel fear just like your parents would, who can love just like your grandparents could, who FEEL just like your kids and your fellow human beings do. (how would you FEEL if you were tied up with a rope on your neck?)

So again, please pick on someone your own size if you really need to. But I’d much rather prefer if you just be nice to everyone and everything that lives, breathes and shares the same planet as you do.

What’s Up with A-Pop (Asian Pop)? – The Wild Hearted Invasion

What’s going on in the world…. well especially in Manila?! The imminent rise of the Alphabet-Pop / Letter-Pop stars is upon us! Of course, when I say “Alphabet-Pop / Letter-Pop,” I’m talking about the K-Pop (Korean Pop), J-Pop (Japanese Pop), T-Pop (Taiwan Pop), S-Pop (Singapore Pop), M-Pop (Malaysian Pop), F-Pop (Filipino Pop) and Mmmmm-Bop (Pop made by three blonde girls). Ok, well maybe I just made up some (or most) of those “Letter-Pop” titles, but what I’m really trying to say that there is an A-Pop (Asian Pop) invasion that is on the radar to hit Manila.

You’ve seen the A-Pop boy-bands with 37 members and the K-Pop girls who got their start in Manila, but now a new A-Pop (J-Pop to be specific) siren seems to be stealing the limelight.

We may not know what these A-Pop stars are saying in their songs, they may be singing about world peace or eating monkey brains, but either way, we still sing along like we mean it! On the other hand, not knowing what something means never really stopped the Philippines from making something trend, I mean just look at how our fellow citizens write or text:

“EDUMACATE ME!”

“Edumacate Me” is a segment where I interview interesting people with even more interesting jobs who come with something to teach and “edumate” me and the listeners with.

Today, our guest was Nash Casten and his crew from TroyDizonDating.com.

They talked about the art of “Pick-Up” but more on the dating and lifestyle aspects of it. It was a very fun and cool conversation and I totally didn’t have enough time to ask them all the questions I had.

So to summarize all that, the main thing I got was that to be able to start “picking-up” girls, meeting girls, getting their numbers and even sleeping with them, you first have to love yourself. Girls won’t be able to love you if you don’t even love yourself.

So with loving yourself comes the confidence that will start to attract everyone else to you.

A voter doesn’t need to touch anything on the PCOS Machine, the Board of Elections Inspector will do it for you! Don’t worry! The BEI’s know how to use them, they have been properly trained by the government. That means that people who don’t know anything about computers can still vote! The only thing you should care about is that you should shade the ovals in the ballots and make sure you insert it to the PCOS Machine correctly.

Do not tear the ballot nor but unnecessary marks on it! This will either not be counted or will be marked as invallid. There is only one ballot per person so use it wisely!

Lord Jesus Christ (his real name) hit by car.

Victim, injured in crosswalk, is treated in hospital for minor facial injuries.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The victim might have forgiven the woman who ran him down in aMassachusetts crosswalk, but police haven’t.

Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down a man named Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed a street in Northampton on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old man is from Belchertown. Officers checked his ID and discovered that, indeed, his legal name is Lord Jesus Christ. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries and later released, according to the local paper.

Fact or Fiction

Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can kill them.

FACT

Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine (a compound related to caffeine), which can sicken and kill family pets. Three factors determine how toxic the sweet stuff will be to a particular animal: the type of chocolate, the size of the animal and the amount of chocolate ingested. The most dangerous confections are unsweetened baker’s chocolate and powdered cocoa, the least, white chocolate.

Symptoms of theobromine poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, restlessness and increased urination. In severe cases, cardiac arrhythmia and seizures can result. The possibility that an animal will kill itself with chocolate is very low. More likely it will get a nasty tummy ache. In any case, it is still prudent to keep all chocolate far away from pets.

Lots of cool stuff on air! Thanks so much for joining me. We talked about my trip to Boracay and my experience Cliff Diving! Here’s a video of that so you can see for yourself how AWESOME it was! – Boracay Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

We also talked about girls falling in love with Marc Nelson, who I ran into while cliff diving. Though what’s funnier was how guys were falling in love with Marc Nelson as well…. long story… will have a different post on that soon.

Anyway, we also talked about the Iron Man 2 premier which I hosted for Mellow 94.7 last night. It was an ok movie…. but not really one that blew my mind away as much as I would have wanted it to. Still need to see it though coz War Machine was cool, but not on the top of my list for coolest movies by a long shot!

This is a crazy parody of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s song Telephone. It seems like it’s done by some locals who are VERY resourceful. I’m actually really impressed with the resourcefulness that they have for this low budget video but that really gets the video of Lady Gaga. Yeah it’s a bit Ghetto, but I’m sure they worked with a 0 budget! So any haters out there, I’d like to see you come up with a video like this with no budget. =P

It’s hotter in the summertime because the Earth is closer to the sun.

FICTION

The Earth is actually closer to the sun in January, and farthest from the sun in July. It’s not the distance from the sun that causes the change in seasons, but our position relative to the sun. The Earth is tilted at a 23.5-degree angle to its orbit around the sun. In the summer, even though it’s slightly further from the sun, the northern hemisphere is tilted so the sun’s rays hit it more directly than they do in the wintertime, which is what makes it hotter. Because the days are longer in the summertime, the sun also has more time to heat up the Earth.

The Earth’s tilt is also why the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere.
