Philippine Elections and YOUR Turn to Vote on May 10

Dough forget to vote!

It’s election time in the Philippines and one of two things will happen to the voters of this nation: One is that many will forget to vote, and Two, many will vote multiple times… Well that’s just the way the country works…

Krispy-Kreme-Fort-Bonifacio-High-Street-15 Krispy-Kreme-Fort-Bonifacio-High-Street-12

But either way, it’s good to know that there are people out there who do their part in reminding forgetful, non-news-watching, non-tv-viewing, non-radio-listening, non-internet-checking people to go out and vote.

Krispy-Kreme-Fort-Bonifacio-High-Street-9

At Krispy Kreme, they made some new, limited edition doughnuts that will surely remind you to go out and vote. Even better is that they’ll reward you with an “Orange You Glad” (orange juice type shake) drink if you come into selected Krispy Kreme branches and show your voting finger stamp. Of course, you can probably just stamp your finger with a regular stamp, but that’d be really sleezy and the doughnut gods will frown upon you.

Also, if you want to practice your voting skills, you can come into a Krispy Kreme outlet where you will, for a limited time, place your order with a ballot-like form where you have to shade in your doughnut orders. It’s practice for people who have never shaded ballots before. Believe me, it’s much more complicated than you think… just ask the citizens of Florida!

Krispy-Kreme-Fort-Bonifacio-High-Street-Dough-Forget-to-Vote Krispy-Kreme-Fort-Bonifacio-High-Street-5

Anyway, thanks to Krispy Kreme, here are some tips on preparing yourselves for the upcoming elections:

1. Turnout will be HUGE! So come before 7am, unless you want to be in line all day.

2. Keep your cool! Stock up on H2O, you don’t want to add to the heat of the election fever, right?

3. Did you know you’re only given one ballot? So make a list or better yet, use a Krispy Kreme vote 2010 mock ballot as your guide. (available at participating outlets)

4. Bring a friend or two! Make the elections a fun democracy date.

After you vote:

5.  On May 10, add this page where you can get a coupon on Facebook – http://Facebook.com/hotlightgirlchloe then go to your nearest Krispy Kreme branch, present your coupon, flip your finger (not the bad one) marked with indelible ink and enjoy a free Krispy Kreme Orange You Glad Chiller.

So yeah, When In Manila (had to say that) on May 10, don’t forget to cast your vote for the people who will best govern the Philippines to make it a better place to live in. Then, do come to Krispy Kreme where you can get rewarded for your right to vote!

Video pick of the day # 2 – Had to have two coz I found this creepy one too where a mechanical mouth can make sounds now. So they’re sort of emulating the throught and making this piece of plastic make sounds. Although, I know some friends who would prefer to do other things with this mechanical mouth, it’s still a cool new piece of science that is slowly helping march us to the eve of our destruction as we are overtaken by machines. Oh and giant turtles.

Fact or Fiction

It’s hotter in the summertime because the Earth is closer to the sun.

FICTION

The Earth is actually closer to the sun in January, and farthest from the sun in July.  It’s not the distance from the sun that causes the change in seasons, but our position relative to the sun.  The Earth is tilted at a 23.5-degree angle to its orbit around the sun.  In the summer, even though it’s slightly further from the sun, the northern hemisphere is tilted so the sun’s rays hit it more directly than they do in the wintertime, which is what makes it hotter.  Because the days are longer in the summertime, the sun also has more time to heat up the Earth.

The Earth’s tilt is also why the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere.

Fact or Fiction

Men have a higher tolerance for alcohol than women.

FACT

Due to physiological differences, a woman will absorb up to 30 percent more alcohol into her bloodstream than a man of the same height and weight drinking the same amount of alcohol. Compared to men, women tend to have a higher percentage of body fat, which does not absorb alcohol, and a lower percentage of water, which does — resulting in a greater concentration of alcohol in the blood. Men also have a greater quantity of an enzyme in their stomachs that breaks down alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Since women tend to be smaller and lighter than men, they are at an additional disadvantage when it comes to holding their liquor. So, ladies, it’s best not to engage in any drinking contests with your male buddies.

Vince at iBlog6 Summit – From the Eyes (and Links) of Other Bloggers

The iBlog 6 Summit was a BLAST!

I had way too much fun talking in front of a whole auditorium of new and veteran bloggers. I was asked to speak about Video Blogging 101. So pretty much the basics of Video Blogging. I of course, added a little twist to this and titled my talk: “Are you Sexy Enough to be a Video Blogger?”

The video will be out soon and I’ll post links to that. You can see some notes from that talk, that were featured in the iBlog6 “Digit@l Magazine” here – “Are you Sexy Enough for Video Blogging?”

Anyway, I just wanted to share some links, insights and pictures from some bloggers I found who were there to see my talk. Hopefully they liked it and hopefully they learned something cool from it. If anything, I’m hopeful people do know that they ARE sexy enough to be a video blogger!

VIDEO BLOGGING

I’ve been really planning to make my own channel in YouTube. Although I have one, it only contains my college video projects. It was until yesterday that I realized how video blogging is important to a blogger like me.

The fun video blogging lessons were presented by Vince G. (I’m sorry I forgot the last name). He’s a DJ at Mellow 94.7 (yeah! I listen to that radio station). According to DJ Vince (http://wheninmanila.com) video blogging doubles the power of your blog. I think he made his point. Video can be present in your blog as well as other platforms like YouTube, Vimeo and Veoh. Actually, if you put your videos to these three platforms it doesn’t just double your blogging power but it’s four times better than just publishing an article in your WordPress or Blogger site.

I like it when he said: “It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you.” Now that’s one rocking statement! It can somehow be associated to being famous. He showed us some clips on YouTube about famous video bloggers/personalities. He showed us “David After Dentist”, which I couldn’t believe that I never heard or watched before. It was really funny!

Because of that, I got more inspired to make my YouTube channel active. I also have a channel in Vimeo (search for Sai Verano) but I haven’t uploaded any video yet. It’s a channel for business tips and principles.

Ishmael Fischer Ahab of http://theparadoxicleyline.blogspot.com had a quick comment about my presentation:

Vince Golangco’s presentation on video blogging opened up some ideas in my mind. If I will pursue video blogging in the future, his tips and tricks will be definitely useful.

Notes
I am expecting a lot of people to come in a few hours. Morning sessions of iBlog6 usually doesn’t fill up Malcolm. Many bloggers (prominent ones) will probably arrive this afternoon. And this hall will be jamapacked.

Vince Golangco is very entertaining. I like it that we are learning something while he makes really good jokes! Its an entertaining presentation. He shows videos and funny clips and still makes a point.

Are you Sexy Enough to be a Video Blogger? (how to Vlog)

I spoke today at the iBlog 6 Summit (iBlog6) held at the University of the Philippines.

My topic was Video Blogging 101 with my own little twist. I titled my segment, “Are you Sexy Enough to be a Video Blogger?” and talked about why people should start a video blog, the power a video blog carries and what it can do for you. I then also spoke about common excuses that people give regarding why they don’t want to start a video blog.

Below is my supporting article to my presentation that appeared in the UP Law Center’s Internet and Society Program “Digit@l” Magazine Volume 9 Issue 1.

Are you Sexy Enough for Video Blogging?
By: Vince Golangco

Long before you and I were around, our great great great great grandfathers used to live by the saying that goes: “It’s all about what you know!” So they poured their blood, sweat and tears into working 12 hours a day and learning a craft to the point where they were better than everyone else. The problem with this concept is that you can be the very BEST at one thing, but if no one knows you’re the best, then you won’t really get much work.

From that splendid point of view came the old saying our great great grandfathers then lived by, that went: “It’s not about what you know, it’s all about who you know!” This concept of course came to life at the dawn of the marketing and advertising era. It was about making connections and seeking them when you need help. It’s a very basic premise that is still used a lot here in the Philippines, especially in politics (that’s a semi-joke). Knowing someone always ensured you could ask for help when you needed it. The problem was that your ask-for-help currency is usually limited. You can only ask for so many favors and people can only do so much for you.

What would be more beneficial to all parties would be you helping other people to find you, when they need you. Help them help you. Thus, in today’s new marketplace and new globalized culture, the new and most effective way of life goes as:

“It’s not about what you know or who you know, it’s all about WHO KNOWS YOU!”

If Big Widget Making Company needed to get someone to make their new widget, and they somehow heard about your excellent widget making skills, they would surely approach you to seek your guidance. If this said Big Widget Making Company need someone to market their new widget, and they somehow heard about your excellent widget marketing skills… well you get the point.

With the internet, we’re each able to promote our own personal brands and inform others about our personal expertise. The person who better markets themselves and promotes their brand will, more often, get the job. This person will get the job even though there may be others more skilled or qualified than he is. But don’t hate the playah’… hate the game.

Blogging and video blogging are some of the most powerful tools to get your name out there.

What’s the difference between a blog and a video blog? Well, it’s pretty simple; video blogging, or vlogging, is twice as powerful as regular blogging.

First of all, a vlog allows for more avenues to publish your work. You’re able to re-post your creative products on other sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, TwitVid and more. Furthermore, most blogs do not do a good job of putting a face on the writer. Have you ever tried remembering a name without a face? It’s much more difficult to remember someone if you can’t recall what they look like. So not adding a logo, or your face, to your blog and brand is a malpractice that most people overlook.

The best practice I’ve seen with vlogs is still having the blog aspect to your post, but having a video that compliments your article. Having the written part helps you with the Search Engine Optimization (SEO), while also giving more depth to your post. What vlogs have though that regular blogs don’t is the ability to feed the need of people to watch TV, or something like TV. Moreover, videos help you feature so much more about your topic that regular words or pictures simply can’t capture.

When I founded WhenInManila.com, I knew from the start that a travel site featuring the Philippines would not be justified with just stories and photos. I knew that this country had way too much splendor to encapsulate into just letters and static images. There was no question that creating a video channel was the best way to properly build this site. The traffic and positive response we’ve gotten as of today is just a small testament of the power of  video blogs.

You’ve most likely heard about internet sensations turning into global celebrities such as Charice Pempengco or Arnel Pineda. Both starting out as no more than YouTube video diary producers but are now international talents. These two individuals did no more than just post videos of their singing expertise.

Now instead of giving you more reasons why you should start a video blog, I’m instead going to give you the most common reasons why people haven’t already started a vlog and also the rebuttal I have for these initial mis-thoughts:

  • “I’m shy”

Let me share a secret with you – Some of the most successful, most popular, and seemingly most outgoing “celebrities” are actually some of the shyest and most bashful people in the world. Being shy is a normal part of being human. Many people are able to overcome this simply by ignoring their internal thoughts or by excessive practice of pretending not to be shy. The secret is that everyone has some level of bashfulness that comes from the basic human need of being accepted. In fact, sometimes the limelight triggers this need for acceptance even more and some people who get thrown into this popularity pool have no idea how to handle all the attention. They eventually start craving the positive attention and slowly start needing more of it to feed and counter their shyness. I constantly recall a friend of mine, named Pam, who’s a professional model. She once told me that she hates dating other models because models are very needy. She said that most other models need you to constantly remind them of how cool, sexy and special they are, or think they are. They need the constant ego boost in order to maintain their level of “unshyness” in order to properly perform their job. They may do a good job at hiding how shy they really are, but the bottom line is that they’re just as introverted as you are, but the difference is that they found a way to overcome this. So if you want to take your brand, or yourself to the next level, then you need to find your own way of overcoming this internal block. Start by contemplating this statement: “Fake it til’ you make it!” Now STOP, and think about it.

  • “I don’t look good on camera” / “I’m not sexy enough to be a video blogger”

This fruitless thought is yet another angle of the shy syndrome that we all need to overcome. We’re fed lies everyday by the television and beauty magazines. They dictate to us the need for excessive make-up and photoshopping skills in order to look like what the ad agencies and big corporations think we should look like. This is a trap that we should not fall into:

“Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.”  – Steve Jobs, Apple CEO

It’s a new world and the dawn of social media has moved the control of what we think is beautiful from the advertising agencies to the end users. No longer is this an era of supermodels with fake tans and breast implants. Today’s Web 2.0 world dictates that the normal people are the more beautiful specimens. It’s all about what’s real today. Believe me, you are more beautiful and more real than half the fakers on TV today.  Now you just need to adjust your own self to think the same way.

  • “I don’t think I have anything significant to say or share”

Are you religious? Do you believe in women’s rights? Who do you think will be the best president for our country? Do you like cats?

You do have an opinion and you do have something significant to say. Having an opinion of something does not mean you have to be a certified expert in that field. It’s just what it is, an opinion. There is no need for a degree in law or political science to share your opinion on who you think will be the best president for the country. You can vote for whoever you want and have your own thoughts on why this is so. Some people will think you are an absolute idiot for thinking one way, while other will also think that you are an absolute genius for thinking the same exact thoughts. So just say it as it is. Get a camera and let people know what you think. Don’t expect everyone to agree with it. It’s actually a good thing if some people disagree with you. It means you have a good point. It means you’re challenging things. It means you are a leader. Good leaders are the ones who always challenge the status quo. Be that leader!

  • “I don’t have the tools to create videos” / “My camera is not the High Definition / Blue Ray quality that’s needed for online videos”

When I first started my vlog, WhenInManila.com, I thought I needed the best quality cameras and the best equipment known to man. It wasn’t long before I realized that the internet does not have such stringent entrance fees as I thought it would. This is one club that lets everyone in. This is not to say that you should produce material of low quality, instead it just means that sometimes, real videos that are less fabricated and more personal are more appreciated online. So that means cell phone cameras and digicams work just as well, if not better for the YouTube community.  You don’t need an entire production crew. It’s all about producing quality content with the tools you already have. iPods, digital cameras, your phones and even webcams are more than enough to get you started. Worry about content rather than equipment.

  • “I don’t know how to edit a video”

I live by this quote that says: “The man who says ‘I CAN’ and the man that says ‘I CAN’T’ are both right. Which one are you?”

So it all starts with the right attitude. If you’re willing to learn, then I guarantee that you will. In fact, video editing (like so many other things in life) is much easier than you may think. I still use the basic program for most of my video editing needs. You can actually download it for free, just search for “Windows Live Movie Maker.” It’s is the bare necessity / basic video editing program that will not leave you confused like a grandma on Facebook. There aren’t too many options or buttons but it still has more than enough to get you going. You can cut, paste, add videos, add pictures, add music and even put a watermark. It should take you no more than a few tries at this to be an expert at editing videos with this program. All it takes is the right attitude and the initiative to do so.

  • “No one will watch me anyway”

Well what do you have to lose? It may take some time but if you do put out anything with decent quality, you’ll start finding your niche and you’ll start getting the support you need. It’s no secret that every blogger, video blogger, or TV star started out with one fan – their mom. Though with the right marketing tactics and persistence, all these people start building an audience of people who appreciate them for who they are and what they do. You don’t need to have any super talents. Sometimes, people appreciate you for exactly what you can bring to the table. In fact, this sometimes makes people more attracted to you as they feel like they can connect with you. They end up feeling just as simple as you are and thus they appreciate you for what you have to say, no matter how insignificant you may think it is (refer back to advice on you thinking that you don’t have anything significant to say or share).

The relatively low cost of starting an online channel has made video production much easier. In fact, marketers and bloggers today like going by the phrase: “Ready, Fire, Aim.” It’s a statement that means you can adjust your content toward your audience. Just get started with what you have in mind and worry about adjusting and tweaking it as you go along. It won’t cost you anything anyway. Go ahead, fire when ready!

  • “People might say mean things about me and my videos”

Yes they will. I won’t lie, there are a lot of “haters” out there who do nothing but try to drag people down. The one piece of advice I remember from Filipino internet sensation Christina Gambito, better known as HappySlip, was that you need to ignore all the negative comments and downbeat people. They will be out there and you just need to do your best to produce what you feel is quality videos and content. The rest will fall into place on its own.

Most are hindered from starting a vlog simply by their own selves. Well, it’s time to overcome your personal walls and turn yourself into the next internet video producer. With the right attitude and some practice, you’ll be the next video star faster than you can say “YouTube Sensation!”

Believe me, it’s a lot easier than you think.

“The greater danger for most of us, is not that our aim is too high and we miss it,
but that it is too low and we reach it”
–Michelangelo

It’s funny how no one is ever really an expert with social media and online marketing. The playing field keeps changing and it keeps getting more interesting.

So far, some interesting fact’s I’ve gotten, while barely 1/4 of the way through this, is that:

  • 70% of internet growth in the coming years will come from video
  • There are 2 Million emails sent every second
  • Bandwidth for 20 homes will generate more traffic than the entire internet in 1995
  • The Philippines leads the world in number of internet users who view online videos
    • Phil – 98.1%
    • Brazil 93%
    • China 89.1%
  • There are 1 Billion SMS (text) messages sent per day in the Philippines
  • 50% of active users in Facebook log in daily

Anyway, I’ll write another post later on with new info after I get them.

Kick-Ass the Movie KICKS ASS!!! (An Ass Kicking Film Review)

“Three guys beating up on one dude with everyone else just watching… and you’re asking what’s wrong with ME?!?!” said the lead character, Kick Ass (his superhero name), as he tries to defend the one guy being beaten to death.

That was probably the one line that really got me thinking from this movie.

Now before I go on, Kick-Ass, the movie, KICKED ASS!!! I mean like, it was TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

Kick-Ass-Movie-Kicks-Ass-Review (3) Kick-Ass-Movie-Kicks-Ass-Review (5)

Without giving away too many spoilers, let me just say that it was a very earthly and REAL story.

Pretty much, some geeks asked the question on: Why no one has tried to be a superhero yet in real life? Dave, the story’s main character, realizes that there is so much sh*t going on in the world and that all we ever do is watch. No one ever takes initiative or takes action.

So as you can see, the plot alone has a very noble basis, yet coming from a very realistic place.

kick-assHit GirlKick_Ass_The_Moviekickass-kicking-ass-kickingass-asskick-movie-comics-comic

Initially coming into the theater, and from seeing the trailers, I honestly thought this was going to be another stupid movie. I was thinking more to the likes of “Scary Movie” or “Naked Gun” and even “Mystery Men.” Fortunately, I was in for a pleasant surprise.

“Kick-Ass” was not like any of those idiotic movies. This one had a great story, great acting, FUCKING AWESOME fight scenes and the coolest characters! The character portrayals was actually one I liked the most. Each  personality in this movie was well developed, from their dialog, to their screen presence and even their internal conflicts. I could see the soul of each character as I watch each move they made and each word they said. The child who was a no more than a child, the father who had a vengeance, the boy who wanted to save the world and the son who wanted to be like his father.

kick_ass_movie_posters_combined

Anyway, expect lots of cool action scenes, funny segments, bloody guts flying all over the place and of course, ONE KICK-ASS MOVIE!!!!

Definitely recommend you go see this!

Bothering me… cat serial killer

If you haven’t heard, there’s this blog going around the internet that’s really bothering me. It’s from a self proclaimed “cat serial killer”, Joseph Carlo Candare, who hates cats but enjoys hurting and killing them. It’s really disturbed me not only because I love cats but also because am very appalled by those who abuse their power over others who cannot defend themselves. Below is my comment on his blog and also a re-post of his original entry (he took it down after the masses expressed their opposition of his actions).

————————–

Joseph’s friends are right, he shouldn’t be apologizing to these people… the only ones Joseph Carlo Candare should be apologizing to are the cats he has hurt!

It’s not about what you harm — a cat, a horse a monkey, or a person. The fact is that those who have power should not abuse it over those who don’t. A person clearly has the power to jump on a cat, expose it to extreme suffering and even end its life. But those mature adults who are responsible, considerate and humane would not ever invoke pain or suffering on those who cannot defend themselves.

This is no different than domestic violence, when a stronger man would beat up a weaker woman; or child abuse, when a grown adult would hurt a defenseless child.

So if anything, I really hope that people think before they act. Joseph, you imposed a lot of pain and tremendous suffering into another LIVING, BREATHING creature. Please put yourself in the shoes (or paws) of that harmless and powerless being and try to empathize next time before you go on your power trips.

You know you remind me of another person who believed he was superior to others and that his hatred towards them justified his deranged actions. He believed in his ascendancy so much, that he was able to rally a whole nation into “cleansing” themselves of those whom they thought were inferior. Today we know this event as the Holocaust… and the person who bravely led this movement was Adolph Hitler.

I hope others can learn from this…

Life Happens… One Song at a Time

It hasn’t been too long yet since I started my job as a radio DJ on Mellow 94.7. It’s one of those jobs that I thought could only be a dream, and no more. Fortunately for me, I never really limited myself with my own glass ceiling and instead, naively set out to conquer the world.

Now as most of you know, there are many things in life that seem extremely simple from the outside looking in. This false impression makes many Guinness world records seem easy enough for a child to accomplish, but can be unexplainably complicated when you’re doing it yourself.  Well, DJing, is not really one of those jobs. It’s pretty easy, if you don’t stress out like an autistic genius in a room full of network marketers. Well, right now, I’m that autistic dude with pyramid scheming fudgetards approaching me left and right.

I don’t know why, but I have a tendency to want everything to be perfect, and it stresses me out when it’s not. Furthermore, I like planning things out two weeks in advance. So when I’m sitting in that DJ booth, two things usually happen. One – I try to plan the perfect shpeal uhhhh….. stutter… stutter…. I mean…. spiel… the perfect spiel every time I go on air. And two – I try to plan out the next hour full of adlibs, greetings, song requests, music, ads, time checks, sponsorships and the kitchen sink! Often, this results in a cluster f*ck of craziness.

So instead, I sat myself down and remembered the last time I was in a high pressure situation. It was my junior year of college and I (for reasons I still do not comprehend) ran as president for this international business organization, and WON. I was there at the first meeting with my team discussing (what seemed to be) the 500 tasks we had to accomplish within 8 weeks. This included raising a few thousand dollars, organizing two charity events, setting up professional mixers, interviewing about 50 professionals, taking in-depth exams per week, preparing presentations every week and more! Just imagine Donald Trump’s show, “The Apprentice,” with less glamor, more work and MORE DONALDS breathing down your neck!

I almost had a nervous breakdown that night.

With ways unknown to me, I somehow made it through that first meeting. Then, I somehow made it through the first night, then the next morning, the next afternoon, the next day and so on.  Eight weeks later, I was amazingly able to accomplish all the goals set out for me and my team. What I realized, was that you have to take things one step at a time.

“The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” – Chinese Proverb

I was stressing out when I thought of ALL the millions of things I had to do for the next eight weeks. Coz let me tell you, there was A LOT! But, if I break it down to one task at a time – one phone call, one email, one idea, one little meeting; then the big giant stress ball doesn’t seem so huge anymore.

I realized this while I was at work today.  I started to just worry about my next song, instead of the next 240 minutes. There is a lot you do need to do in radio – pick your songs, read some greetings, check messages sent over text, messages on Facebook, read the ads, make sure the right ads are playing, play sponsored songs, make sure your volume is ok, prepare the phone patch, get your background music going, give a time check, talk into the mic, get your news ready, then all back to getting the next song ready again coz the amount of time it took me to write this already caused that one song to pass….

Get it? Lots to do. But, instead of stressing on all that. I just need to take things one song at a time. It makes everything a lot simpler.

Somehow, they haven’t fired me yet from this DJing thing. So I guess I must be doing ok. One song at a time, I’m pretty good at that.

“Yard by yard, life is hard. But inch by inch, life’s a cinch!” -anonymous quote

Anyway, that’s my two cents for the day. Hope it helps you somehow. But I gotta go now…. My next song is up…

“Hey what’s up you’ve found “The G-Spot” Radio Show with me, DJ Vince G!”

Einstein’s Theory of Relativity

Deals with the perception of time and distance by observers in different frames of reference which are moving with respect to each other. An observer in one frame perceives that time is slower and distances are shorter in a different frame.

Also postulates that the speed of light is perceived to be the same in every frame of reference, and that no form of matter or energy can travel faster than light.

A theory by a man called Albert Einstein (with a crazy hairstylist) which clearly defines :
0. E = MC^2, thats E for energy, M for mass and C for speed of light!
1. No matter can excede the speed of light
2. Speed of light is constant for all, irrespective of their motion.
3. You can not go back in time and have sex with elvis or anyone for that matter!

Fact or Fiction

If you fire a bullet into a car’s gas tank, the car will explode.

FICTION

Don’t believe everything you see in the movies. Cars practically spontaneously combust on the big screen, but in real life it takes a very specific set of circumstances for a car to turn into a ball of flames.

In order for a car’s fuel tank to catch fire, it would have to rupture in such a way that the gas sprays out in a fine mist at a concentration of 0.8 to 6 percent gasoline vapor in the air and come into contact with an ignition source. Since gas tanks are pretty well protected, and the ignition is at the other end of the car, this is pretty darn unlikely.

To further contradict the world of movie physics, bullets do not spark, so while a bullet can make an unsightly hole in the side of the car and an annoying leak in the fuel tank, it will not cause the vehicle to instantly explode.

Sunscreens with an SPF of 40 or 50 provide significantly more protection against UV rays than SPF 30 sunscreens.

Tests have shown than sunscreens with an SPF of 15 block 93 percent of UV rays, while SPF 30 sunscreens block about 97 percent. Anything higher than 30 still hovers around 97 percent. Fact or Fiction

You are more likely to be struck by lightning than attacked by a shark.

FACT!

According to the National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning in the United States in any given year are 1 in 700,000. By contrast the odds of being attacked by a shark in the United States are roughly 1 in 8 million.

So don’t be afraid to go in the water — just be sure to get out and seek shelter at the first sign of a thunderstorm, because you’ll be a sitting duck in the water or on the beach.

Adam Carolla vs Manny Pacquiao & the Philippines

Here we go again, anther comedian says something about the Philippines and everyone and their mom thinks it’s the end of the world.

If you haven’t heard, talk show host and American comedian Adam Carolla went on a pretty funny (in my opinion) rant about the holy saint / prodigal son / chosen one / prophet almighty of the Philippines, Manny Pacman Pacquiao.

Examiner.com reports:

Adam Carolla starts off his vulgar tirade by bashing Manny for not giving blood before a fight. He then proceeds to say that Manny is off “praying to chicken bones” and that you don’t have to respect him because he’s a “fu**ing idiot”. “Someone has to tell him that it doesn’t make a difference.”

“Here’s how you know when your country doesn’t have a lot going for it: When everything is about Manny Pacquiao.”

“Get a fu**in life as a country”

“All you fu**in got is just an illiterate guy who happens to smash other guys in the head better than other people”

“Really, you want some guy with brain damage running your country? Why don’t you get your sh*t together?”

“All they have over there is Manny Pacquiao and sex stores.”

“What happens when Floyd Mayweather beats him? Does your country go into depression?”

I laughed a bit when I read that. Especially about the part where he questions the aftermath of a Pacman loss. Which does have it’s credits. I’m not quite sure how fans will react to a Manny Pacquiao loss at this stage of his career. Especially considering many people take many things, like this meaningless rant of Carolla’s, too seriously.

I’ve had my share of saying some things that I thought were absolutely harmless, yet got hate comments talking about how I’ve offended people by joking about locals re-using Christmas gift-wrappers. These people I’ve offended of course also add an encore by sending death threats and saying that I should die (Lol – click ignore).

In my opinion, it’s more of a personal matter where insecurity usually leads people to get defensive. People, who know who they are and are confident in who they are, do not easily get offended by others who call them out.

If you told Michael Jordan that he was a bad basketball player, instead of threatening you back or complaining, he would use that doubt you have and push himself to do better on the court. He’s confident in himself, he knows what he can do and that he doesn’t take everything everyone says too personally. If you however tell a struggling basketball player that he sucks, well then, you’ll get lots of hate mail, anger, frustration and more negative reactions.  It’s because the struggling basketball player is insecure about himself and thus, every little thing you say just makes things worse.

ou think Adam Carolla does not know what he’s talking about in this matter? Well, duh. Doesn’t really take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I know for a fact that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Which is exactly why I don’t bother lowering myself to even bother being offended by what he has to say.
Why waste any of my time or energy feeding off negative emotions towards an idiot? Why lower myself to that?
And that my friend is what is annoying about “people like you.” You waste time with negative energy towards an idiot like Adam Carolla and his pointless rant that had no justification.

That’s my two cents. Love it or hate it. Hopefully people can realize that words are just words and that they should instead work to prove these words wrong, rather than go on a fruitless rampage.

Please direct all hate mail to my cat, Snug, who was the main influence that trained me to be a blunt, idiotic, country hater.

“From Paris with Love” Movie Review – You’ll Love It… If You’re a Fan of Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme…

If you read my long title, “From Paris with Love” Movie Review – You’ll Love It… If You’re a Fan of Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme… and you happen to like Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme, then you probably didn’t get my sarcasm. So let me lay it out for you… this movie SUCKED BALLS!

It really sucked.

You’ll like it if you like mindless movies with no story or plot. I know people have said that line before… “This movie has no plot…” but this time I swear to you, it’s true! This movie has no story whatsoever. If they did use any sort of script, it was just to make sure that the right expressions of pain were said during different fight scenes that Steven Seagal John Travolta kicked the asses of the ogres that attacked him.

But seriously, some suicide bomber / spy / terrorist person called Jean Claude Van Damme John Travolta and the Travolta man was able to tell exactly where she was from the sound of the cars on the freeway. Is there only one freeway in Paris?

The fight scenes were somewhat ok. But the entire package left you feeling empty and stupid. As if you missed something from the story, until you finally realize that there was NO story.

On the other hand, this movie was rated 5 Stars and Two Thumbs Up by both Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme….

Speaking at the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI) Awards Night

I just found out about this organization,  the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI), as I was asked by my friends, at Ex-Link Events to speak and host their awards night.

It’s a cool organization that helps college kids to get  a feel for the corporate business world. I was thoroughly impressed by the level of professionalism and drive that the college students had.

See each college / university has it’s own chapter of the Junior Achievement of the Philippines Inc. (JAPI). Each chapter represents a company that the students need to run and manages just like a regular corporation. They have products to sell, campaigns to market, customers to satisfy and deadlines to meet. At the end of every year, they all come together for an annual toast and awards ceremony to honor the stand-outs of each university.

JAPI IN A NUTSHELL

Junior Achievement is a singular achievement of a unique youth development program for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and business leaders.
In JA, you “learn business by doing business”.

JA is a practical economic education program
Organized and manage your own small scale business
Guided by adult advisers/consultants from the business community

You can find out more about JAPI on their website http://japionline.org

It sort of reminds me of my business organization from my own alma mater San Diego State University (SDSU). I was the President of the premier international co-ed business fraternity – Alpha Kappa Psi. This decision of mine to join an organization that promoted growth, professionalism and leadership was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. Not just because of all that professional mumbo jumbo, but also because I met like minded individuals whom I know now as my best friends.

Just thought I’d share some thoughts on this in case anyone still in school is reading. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend that you find and join an organization that is in tune with your own personal ideals. Whatever it may be, just get involved. Join an glee club if you like singing, join a cosplay club if you like anime, join a dance club if you like dancing, join a drama club if you like acting. Whatever it is you like, find others who enjoy it to and surround yourself with people who will accept you for who you are and push you to greater heights within that realm.

Just my two cents. AKPsi for life!

“How to Train Your Dragon” 3D Movie Review, Trailer and Info

****MINOR SPOILERS ALERT!!!!****

There weren’t any BIG events of exaggerated movie trailers. There wasn’t even much news or even a hint of a buzz about this movie prior to it’s release. Randomly, I’m not even sure where, I briefly heard of some news about a surpirse movie hit that made millions upon millions over the weekend. I didn’t pay much attention to it as I was busy and had a million other things to do.

Then comes Wednesday, I worked the DJ booth at Mellow 94.7 for a mid morning shift then had to run off to a couple of meetings. The meetings were held at the Araneta Center area so I obviously would take advantage of this situation and have some Singapore Chicken Rice, my favorite restaurant there. Afterwards, FlairCandy and I decided to take a break from our crazy month of March and watch a movie. I’m REALLY happy we did.

I started to look online, while at Krispy Kreme, for movie reviews and went to RottenTomatoes.com. The first movie on their list was the new release “How to Train Your Dragon.” What immediately surprised me was the 97% approval rating plus the unlimited good reviews for this movie and how it made $47 Million at the box office last weekend! I automatically remembered the earlier news I heard about that surprise movie blockbuster. So we set off to see this animated dragon movie!

Oh here are two of the trailers for the “How to Train Your Dragon” movie. Though I must admit that these trailers SUCK! These trailers in no way depict the powerful emotions and wonderful delights that the actual movie portraits. I’m not sure if it helped out the movie as people were probably not expecting a lot from this, and thus got pleasantly surprised when the movie was actually good. Anyway, “How to Train Your Dragon” Movie Review below the trailers –

Fast forward to after we watched this 3D movie…

WOW!!!! That was totally like AVATAR GOOOODDDDD!!!!

EVERYTHING about this movie hit the mark! The dialogue was witty! The script was well written! The voice acting was perfect! The cinematography was captivating! The animations were great and the story was the best feel-good-but-not-too-cheesy amazingly awesome story ever!

“How to Train Your Dragon” is pretty much a story about fitting in. It tells it in such a way where you are drawn back to when you were a child, simply yearning to be accepted.

The main character for “How to Train Your Dragon” is Hiccup, the son of the Viking Leader who’s not quite “Viking Material.” He goes through this movie thinking that he just wants to fit in and that he need to be like everyone else. It isn’t until he meets a flying, fire-breathing dragon that everything starts to change.

Now what’s even better about this movie is the very unique approach to dragons. The movie had fat dragons, “suicide-bomber” type dragons, tiny dragons, two-headed (one head which releases gas and another head which ignites the gas) dragons, boiling-water releasing dragons, giant dragons and more.

Moreover, this movie ends up depicting the dragons as cats, which actually worked out really well. We all know how much the world, especially the internet, loves cats! We can tell because of the number of hits any video on YouTube gets just by having a cat in it. Furthermore, the success of sites such as “lolcats” is another testament of our fascination with cats. So the movie does an excellent job of implementing this love for furry little miowsters!

Again, everything about it ended up fitting in perfectly. This was a beautifully written movie that translated perfectly to the big screen which can entertain adults and kids alike. Of course, I only speak from the point-of-view of an overgrown kid… discretion is advised.
